**** . For some reason I thought he was American. However, Corey Schneider is American, so I guess he can be put in, though he is still kind of unproven at this point.

Team USA is like an upgraded version of Team Finland, tremendous top-end talent but the quality will go down by a great deal if every single one of the guys can't participate. Hence the success in Olympics and World Cups where all the best are there.

Would he get away with that in the NHL?

The NY Rangers must be out of their minds if they don't put Jarkko Immonen back on their roster next season. 8GP 11Pts 8G

It might work. But guys do it in practice all the time and just never get the space in a game. It was done in a college game over 15 years ago, a little different at the speed Granlund did it of course.

Edit: Actually, most of Granlund's stick was above the crossbar unless the video angle is just playing tricks on me. I wonder if it even would have been counted in NHL.

I thought it mattered for where the puck was on the stick and relative to the bar. Like if the part of the stick that the puck was touching was under the crossbar? Or am I wrong?

Yeah this is what I thought. See the Kovalev goal in the 08 playoffs.

People usually talk a lot about how Finland is trending downward during every tournament, right up to when they receive their medals. Granted, it's almost always Bronze.

Finland needs more guys like Granlund in their system. They'll always be tough because they almost always have a goaltender, rugged defense, and responsible forwards, but they never have any prime offensive threats.

Stupid Finland

Jakub Kovar was the third goalie for the Czechs and never saw the ice. Still, even if I don't follow their league, I don't think anyone thought he'd be on the team at all when the season started.

Here are some former (and one current) Flyers who participated this year. I might very well have missed one or two.

Lukas Krajicek 8 games 0 goals 1 assist +3 8 PIM 16.15 TOI
Ossi Väänänen 9 games 0 goals 0 assists +3 4 PIM 15.01 TOI
Lasse Kukkonen 9 games 0 goals 0 assist +1 0 PIM 11.53 TOI
Mika Pyörälä 9 games 1 goal 2 assist +5 4 PIM 14.07 TOI
Stefan Ruzicka 5 games 0 goals 1 assist +2 2 PIM 7.10 TOI
Michal Handzus 5 games 0 goals 2 assists 0 2 PIM 18.10 TOI
Branko Radivojevic 6 games 0 goals 1 assist -1 6 PIM 10.05 TOI
James van Riemsdyk 2 games 1 goal 0 assist -3 2 PIM 18.43 TOI

Congrats to Ossi, Lasse and Mika I suppose. Worth noting is that Pyörälä was, I think at least, used on a line with Mikko Koivu and Tuomo Ruutu. Try him on Richards wing again next year perhaps... He still can't score though, so hopefully not. Finland also used all of their 8 defenders so Väänänen's toi isn't that bad. He was the 5th most used d for Finland. Kukkonen was, of course, #7.
