Price is part of it, for the price of one good composite stick I can buy like 6-7 wooden sticks, but it is mostly feel.
I like to go bargain hunting for shafts, and then you can interchange composite or ABS/wood blades depending on the surface. Over the years, stumbled upon a handful of lightly used $80+ shafts at Play it Again being sold for $10-20.

I go to Play It Again often, and do own a few shafts and swap out blades, but in my mind there is nothing like solid wooden one-piece stick, but you're right there are many cheap composite options as well.

I play in Riverside as well. I was on a Riverside and Lakewood team on Sundays so I would have to make the trek to both rinks in one day and then back to Yorba Linda. When you get on teams that make the drive worth it it's hard to quit. Free socks and jerseys is my paycheck.
That's more than I get. All I get is a warm heart and the occasional towel snap.

As a goalie, the guy I usually fear is the dude with the Sherwood woodie and a Cooper helmet.

Haha. I wish I could be that guy, but I just am not a fan of Sherwood's durability. I have a few that I take out from time to time. It is a hell of a stick to have on the point because of the slap shot it gives you, as my Koho is pretty much a sniper's stick with a Jagr curve, I can pick the corner everytime with a wrist shot, but when it comes to a slap shot it is more randomized than I like it to be. In the end though, my Sherwood sticks usually give out after a handful of games.
I think i'll keep that to myself. Haha! I'm on the Sumos which is Silver and Top Gun which is in a different Silver division. And if you've ever played the Sumos, don't worry I'm not #27.
