I don't think you understand. For European players being called up to play at Worlds is the ultimate honor. For a 20-year old kid playing in the Final is a dream come true.
I'm sure he doesn't even know that Bingo's playing in CF now.
Maybe get him in there if they start losing badly, but if they're winning with what they have then I think it's best that they keep doing what they're doing.
That's not really a choice you can make. Once the World Championships are over, you can't tell Rundblad to go home and wait to see if Binghamton starts losing before adding him. He's either going or he isn't, you can't wait and see.
I'm concerned about how he'd fit in too, but even with Cowen's addition, the blueline is still in tough. David Hale and Derek Smith or high end AHL defensemen who aren't coming back any time soon.
I trust Kleinendorst. Whether he plays Rundblad 20+ minutes a night, or 9 minutes a night as a PP specialist, I think he'd be a positive addition. Plus, playing playoff games in a North American pro league never hurt a European prospect. And as has been noted before, while he's played a lot of hockey this year, he's going to have to get used to it sooner rather than later.
I don't think Runblad will be coming over after the WHC if Bingo is still alive.
It just doesn't happen very often. Plus he has played a full professional season, plus the WHC.
Actually I don't know if he could since he played in a professional league this year. Cowen and other in the AHL playoffs were added because they were Junior and didn't have to be on the clear day roster. I would think there would be something to prevent teams from bringing other professionals from other leagues that were not on the clear day roster.
I don't know the rule, so I could be wrong, but I still believe that even if he were able to, he wouldn't be brought in.
Is he under contract with SEL for next year? If not, since he was under contract in SEL this season could he play in another pro league?
What's the deal with Hale anyways? Last I heard he had the flu? Is it a mono-type thing? Or am I just completely out to lunch and missed an update on him somewhere...
I believe it's a flu but I think (stress on think) he has something which compromised his immune system so it's a really drawn out flu. Remember when Gerber got the flu and lost like 15 pounds right before the playoffs when Ward took over? Imagine that, but worse.
There's always a place for a skilled player like Rundblad. Even if he just skates with the team as a Black Ace...I can't see the harm. Can you imagine the PP - which is already very dangerous - with Rundblad back there with Benoit? Me likey!
Couple of things you may have overlooked, Cowen was in camp with many of these guys last fall, so there is some familiarity. Secondly, when Cowen was brought in the D was decimated, now with some of them returning the need isn't quite so urgent.
While there is no reason to my knowledge that Murray couldn't ask Rundblad to fly over, I just don't believe he will.
Would DR benefit from the experience, probably, but the guys who have worked their butts off all year to get them to this point, deserve consideration. Not saying it won't happen for sure, just don't expect it to happen.
