Have any other current NHLers/ up and coming prospects died in between Cherepanov and Boogey. I know Bourdon was earlier...

What horrible news. Whatever the cause of death is, this is just devastating. He was far too young.

Rest in peace, Derek. This is incredibly sad...It doesn't matter if you agreed or disagreed with Derek's role in the NHL it is horrible that he left this earth so young.

My condolences go out to Derek's family and all of his loved ones.

On a related note, if this is any way related to concussion or head trauma, the league has to change its rules. This is too important to ignore.

Good bye Derek, may you rest in peace.

Totally floored by this. So unexpected to sign on to Twitter on my phone and read this terrible news. RIP Derek, I enjoyed watching you play over the years for both the Rangers and Wild

RIP Derek.

Didnt watch much of the season early on, so I never really got to see him play, but this is terrible news nonetheless.

This is very sad news. Rest In Peace Derek Boogaard. His brother was in the Pens' organization for a while, I could only imagine how devistated Aaron and the rest of the Boogaard family are. Wow...and only 28 years old too. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Boogaard family. I can't believe it.

Wow...

and they have been strange deaths too, suicides or medical issues.

The majority of the deaths on that page seem to be from car accidents.

Also, huge condolences to the Rangers organization. Two young players passing in 2.5 years. Shocking and sickening.

Luc Bourdon, Roman Lyanshenko, Dan Snyder, and Steve Chiasson are the only other players I can think of dying while still playing.
