Matt Carle to Buffalo

I floated this over on the Flyers' board, but I wanted to open it up to Sabres fans and Flyers fans who didn't see it there.

Buffalo gets a reasonably priced lefty to play next to Myers. Carle has one more year left on his deal and a cap hit a tad over $3.4. Philly gets some cap relief to use on a goaltender and/or re-signing Leino, or signing other roster players.

Would Butler and a pick do the trick? Would Philly demand Mike Weber? What would it take to get Carle in blue and gold?

Perhaps they need a 6th center?

Depends on what the pick is.. maybe a 2nd/3rd rounder and butler would work

I wouldn't give up that much for him. Mid rd pick and a prospect

Is Enroth on the table? That would start and end the conversion really quick. Butler/Weber are significant downgrades not interested in either one.

I don't think Carle is the type of defensemen Ruff would like to pair with Myers...

Flyers need a faceoff specialist. Gaustad would be perfect for that. He'd be a good 4th line center for the Flyers.

That said, if we're shipping out a top 4 D-man, I'd want some D-man coming back. So Weber.

Gaustad is a pretty expensive 4th line centre and they've already got Betts.

i'd rather hang on to the assets and let Sekera keep his top 2-4 spot.

Carle isnt the 'upgrade' theyre looking for imo

But we need more physicality, and that's why I suggested Weber. I'm sure you'd benefit from another PMD. Just put him with someone that he can pair with well (it's obvious, but especially with him).

The Sabres need a d-man like Weber more than they need another d-man like Carle. Can't comment on value, but they need a physical stay-at-home d-man more than they do a PMD.

Agreed - granted, Carle had success working with Pronger so playing alongside another giant like Myers wouldn't be much of a change. However, Carle can be a turnover machine and prone to mental lapses - something that doesn't fit the 'shutdown defenseman' category Ruff spoke about.
