Just awful. Anytime some passes too young it's awful, but especially hard to take since he was a part of the hockey community.

RIP Derek. Thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and the Rangers organization and fans.

Man this is terrible. RIP. Always liked this guy a very tough customer who loved sticking up for his teammates, I would have had him on my team at his cap hit. Sad news.

Just wanted to say I'm embarrassed for Boston after watching that moment of silence. More than one person yelling and laughing... first time I've EVER seen a moment of silence cut short. Disgusting.

you must have missed the moment of silence during the islanders playoff game after the Virginia tech massacre when some guy yells out "RANGERS SUCK ****!"

Yea I was pretty PO'd to say the least. It seemed like it was just one or two idiots yelling out being drunken fools and the rest of the people started chanting "Boooooooog" to drown them out.

I wanted to punch these guys through my TV.

It was pretty quiet. There were a couple of idiots as usual that should have been tossed for that but I found the crowd respectful. I am glad they had that moment for Derek B. So young...so sad.

I hate when the idiots do that kind of crap. They are the ones who come to the game already drunk and stupid.

Somehow the Garden needs to learn how to shut off these fools from drinking more once they get to the Garden. It really pisses me off when I see drunk fools consuming beers (or drinks) two at a time and acting like morons. They think it is OK to ruin other fan's enjoyment of the game .

It's fine to have a few and enjoy yourself but no one has the right to come in and spill beer on others . I hate sloppy drunks. What a waste of a seat at the game.

OT again, but I have to comment.

So many people were absolutely trashed way before the game even started. I have nothing against drinking (I had a few beers at the Harp prior to going into the game) but some of these people probably don't even remember half the game, only that we were losing, and used it as an excuse to pay a lot of money for more crappy beer, and act generally obnoxious. It doesn't surprise me from the college age crowd, but people in their late 30's and older? If you need to drink that much, just stay home and do it so you can pass out on the couch instead of weaving all over and crashing into people.

As the game was ending, some jerks in the balcony above us threw their full beer cups and I got soaked. All my fellow passengers on the crowded train must have loved standing next to me during my 45 minute transit. Not to mention how much my car must stink from the drive home.

Guess that's the price you pay for supporting your team along with 17,000 of your best friends.

Exactly what I was thinking. Unbelievable anyone could be that disrespectful and it truly is embarrassing as a Boston fan. I wish security would have made it a point to try and find the people and have them thrown out. I'm sure any of the REAL hockey fans in the crowd would have pointed out the idiots in a second if asked.

I don't think it is just Boston fans. We had some Tampa fans near us who were pretty drunk and annoying. ...That being said we had some nice Tampa fans too.

There are drunk idiots at most sporting events in all cities

We had people behind us shout Boogey and you'll be missed and you rock. I don't mind those.

His family has donated his brain to the concussion study at BU:

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/stan...aardbrain.html

Also, I didn't see this but it came out yesterday that he was in the NHL/NHLPA Behavioral and Substance Abuse Program. It is noted at the above link as well as here http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/range...V06QZ5ZBOP2EdK

His funeral will be Saturday.

So awful. Hope he is in a better place.

maybe AFTER the moment of silence.

Anyone yelling during a brief moment of silence is looking for attention and needs to learn how to shut up. It is very disrespectful.

Autopsy results could take weeks to be released.
