Is it draft day yet ?

If my draft GDT goes as well as my draft lottery GDT we'll have 2 first round picks somehow.

Of course team's have different lists, but no team will write off a player just because they're already stacked at particular position. Besides, we're talking about a consensus number one here. You're going to have to come up with better examples than Fowler and Gormley.

That wouldn't surprise me. He's very skilled, but I'm not sure his offence will translate.

RNH, Larsson, Couturier, and Murphy are the only ones that have been in the top 10 from the beginning on. They set expectations and met them, while one or two may have overachieved just slightly. I'd be most comfortable with one of them.
Some kids are late bloomers. I think Huberdeau is legitimately this skilled, and not just overachieving.

I personally hope we wouldn't but who knows Lou and Conte know best.
We'd have to trade down pretty far to reach a point where we thought Zibanejad was the best player. Probably #9 or so. We'll pick a more talented player at #4.

It wouldn't surprise me to see him go before our pick, especially if he continues on this torrid pace into the Memorial Cup.

Consensus number 1? I remember scouts saying there are an elite 4 all close in talent level and all could contend for number 1 right now RNH is at the top but by no means is he running away with it.

Anyway I think we will end up with Murphy,Larsson, or Couturier. I think Edmonton will pick RNH.

The Oilers' scouts compared RNH to Gretzky in one of their interviews. They'd better pick him after that.

Ya, that's putting unfair expectations on him. But I guess it's not our prospect, so whatever.

Just to throw it around, let's say EDM takes Larsson first, then what happens?

Meh...There's certainly no Stamkos/Tavares in this year's draft, but RNH is pretty damn close. I can only see RNH and Larsson as contenders for number 1 right now. Maybe Huberdeau if he does well in the Mem Cup (and I mean really well).

Colorado will take RNH or they will make the team that wants to trade up for him pay out the ass. Even if RNH isn't #1 on the Avs list, they know what his potential is, and I'm sure they'd rather pick him than trade down one or two spots for scraps.

Then they can really tear it down and try to trade Stasny and his monster contract.

Don't they always? Thank goodness for 100yen shops with lots of tuna.

Ok, say it goes: 1. AL, 2. JH, 3. RNH, then what? Definitely take Couturier or Landeskog? Or trade down for Murphy?

None of this trading down business.

We have pick four, a simple four man list

1. Adam Larsson
2. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
3. Sean Couturier
4. Gabriel Landeskog

After that, celebrate the small victory and watch the rest.

If Larsson goes one I can see Colorado takes RNH then trading Stastny in the near future for a winger or d-man.

If we were to draft Landeskog, we would definitely have to trade some forwards. They say he's the most ready to play in the NHL.

You can go:
Kovy-Zajac-Nick
Parise-Elias-Landeskog
* - Josefson- Teddy
Pelley-Steck-Shark (Pelley may be the odd man out)

Here'a the problem:
Rolston (Very hard to Move)
Zub (Not a 4th liner)
Clarkson (Being paid to much to be a 4th liner)
Henrique (Not a 4th liner, however, may get stuck there this season)

Huberdeau is the real deal. I saw 5 games out of the 6 in the president's cup and he was the best player on the ice... bar none. When Saint John needed a goal, Huberdeau was there to deliver and when they needed to kill off a penality or a 5 on 3, Huberdeau was on the ice to do just that.

I can see Huberdeau leapfrogging Couturier and even Landeskog. He has the mix of skills, grit, determanition, he's clutch and he's a team player*. He'll make some team very happy in the next 2 or 3 years, MAX. He finished the QJMHL playoffs with 16 goals, 14 assists in 19 games and got some hardware to boot (MVP)

* Huberdeau was almost invisible when everyone wanted to hold the cup. I was looking for him but couldn't find him and finally saw him talking to Clermont next to Gatineau's bench. He's the one that went and got Phillips's jersey for the team pic and carried it around during the entire celebrations.

Good news, now we get to watch him in the Memorial Cup, and if he does leapfrog into the top three or 4, we may have a better shot at Larrson. I also have no problem with taking him, Courts or Lando, but Larsson his the guy we need the most.

Kirkpatrick was playing yesterday but I do agree that they're missing two key players but they have such a good team that they can manage to do without them. Now, if Despres and Galiev can stop hogging the puck and doing their best impression of "Kovy in the MacLean era" (aka going all globetrotter on everyone) and Beaulieu plays better then he did yesterday since he was brutal IMO, they'll be fine.

If Huberdeau and Galiev keep clicking like they have, they might not mis those players as much. Without Phillips, now we see what Huberdeau can do on his own.

I don't know if you saw the game yesterday but Huberdeau doesn't need Phillips to perform. It helps cause he's a very solid player but he's the main engine on that stacked line.

Huberdeau would have even better stats if Galiev would stop hogging the puck from time to time. He tries to deke his defender way too much instead of finding the open man or cycling the puck to get open for a one-timer/give and go.

That's squary if you think about it.

Here's the link to the 2011 Memorial cup website. First game will be held this friday and it'll be the Saint John Sea Dogs facing off against the host team, the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors.

Can't wait... http://www.mastercardmemorialcup.com/

I really liked Huberdeau and its sad to have him go before us. I think that will bump Landeskog to 4. We'll see what Lou does
