Can't stand these new announcers who yell. Sam has a way of getting loud and excited while still sounding great and not sounding like he's screaming like a drunk college kid.
Sorry to bring this OT.

I wouln't mind a team of Gianone & Maloney.

Gio does a pretty good job of calling a game and his voice is palatable in that you can focus on the game at points and not notice his calling too much but it's also there when you want to listen. He doesnt take over the game. And Maloney is just hilarious sometimes and a little more level headed in his color comentary then Joe can be.

With that said, I hope Sam stays around for a long time, I havent watched many Yankee games since Scooter retired and Sam is pretty much on that level of NY Sports hirearchy.

I like Maloney, and I like Giannone as an analyst, but in no way would I want Giannone as the permanent pbp.

The Rangers should get Jim Cornelison, he is the best going right now AINEC.......

Of course that is going to take some coin, plus he is a Chicago guy.

If not him than they should just raid the opera for a guy with a booming voice.

If you haven't heard him enjoy:

This.

The only reason I say Thorne is the only one remotely close is he has a way of not taking over the game but conveying the excitement. His calls are simple and not filled with the obnoxious personal calls that are obviously contrived...just simple...like Sam's "it's a powerplay goal!" Also hate it when an announcer's voice becomes raspy when yelling (the Capitals announcer is THE THIRD WORST, and that's only because Jack Edwards mother saw fit to give birth to him, and Rick Jeanneret is still doing his "i sound like i'm going into cardiac arrest shtick")

As for Amirante, no doubt his voice is going a bit. But I don't care, I want him singing the anthem for as long as he's willing to do it. As someone else mentioned, it's the nostalgia that I care about, not the actual singing. No one gets me more pumped up for a game than John.
All of the above

Thorne is best on baseball. He is horrible at hockey at everything except yelling SCORE. Glad he is out of hockey. Tried him again this season during the NCAA frozen four. Nothing has changed. He butchered players names, mis-identified them, he was terrible.

Then I guess that I watched the Rangers for 20 years before the dawn of time. Any of you guys ever hear of Roger Doucet?

You must know a different Gary Thorne. The one I know yells.

This so obvious that I can't imagine Kenny not getting a promise from MSG to inherit the job when Sam retires. Being that Marv doesn't do hockey anymore Kenny is already the best play by play announcer in hockey.

Believe it or not, I was a theatrically trained singer in my youth. I know where to pause during to anthem for the fans and I can sing Oh, Canada in English and French. I'd give it a shot. I'll come on the show and audition for you and Jim.

Then you can always say, it ain't over until the Fat Lady sings!
