This would make me cream my pants. MAB can put up serious points on the blue line and the powerplay. If you protect him, he's a poor mans carle. Give Cole a 1 year contract, 1.7 for a chance at winning the cup.

Carle for Clutterbuck. No idea if they would want to do that. But I do

I know this is 100% unlikely. But god damn, it would be awesome wouldn't it. I think you have to have rookies in the lineup too. You need their enthusiasm, their drive to impress and their freshness to the NHL.

So Carter to Edmonton? Bob in the AHL and Leighton as the backup. I think if that was the case, I would prefer Boucher at .9 instead of Leighton at 1.55. Do you think Holmstrom is ready for top line minutes with JVR/Giroux? He didn't really shine in the AHL.

A breakdown:
Carter and Carle to Nashville for Shea Weber - sign for 10 years
Versteeg to somewhere for a first round pick in the draft
Re-sign Leino to ensure Briere continues to produce (he isn't the same without the skilled winger)
Re-sign Nodl, Powe and "maybe" Carcillo
Let Holmstrom, Setsito, Read compete for a job
Sign free agents to win faceoffs (Madden, Kenopka)
Sign free agents to improve PP (Brooks Laich, Shea Weber deal)
Sign legit #1 goalie (Bryzgalov)
Sign free agents to improve grit (Powe, Kenopka, Madden, Laich)

I liked what I saw from Holmstrom and Laviolette certainly trusted him, even giving him some PK minutes. Holmstrom is the type of player who will make the hit, battle in the corners and has some size.

I am only using Leighton in the NHL because he is already under contract and Bobrovsky can get moved without a problem and needs a year of playing at that level.

This is the type of change I am looking at for this team. They need more guys who buy Laviolette's game, and a couple guys who are willing to do all the little things. I would be happy with Holmstrom if he scored 15-20 goals(he had 16-22-38pts in AHL on a bad team) and Magnus Paajarvi chipped in 20-25-55pts(Leino numbers) with Cole around his 25-25-50pts.

Championship teams are not built in one off-season by blowing up the roster and making several changes. Championship teams are built by tweaking already competitive rosters; your suggestion is a massive overhaul.

Championship teams have a goalie in net who can make the stops and a team who plays as a group in the coaches system. This team is not doing that and they lack a goalie. Championship teams also do not have guys like Bartulis as their #6 and a player like Read who has little/no professional experience.

And this is by no means a blow up, some tweaks in the right areas.

Lose Carter, Carle, Hartnell, Leino(UFA), and bring in guys who have won a Stanley Cup in Larose, Cole, Bryzgalov, and a high end prospect who is under contract for a couple more years.

And IMO this team needs a little overhaul, too much complacency. There has been a belief that they are so good that they just need to "flip the siwtch" and they can win on a whim. It does not work in the NHL, time to get guys who want to come and play on a nightly basis. The window is small, make whatever changes helps the coach get the players he needs to do his job, which is coach, not babysit.

This team is easy to play against, and it showed against Atlanta, Ottawa, and other non-playoff teams, and reared its ugly head again in the playoffs against the Sabres and finally in a sweep against the Bruins.

Losing Carter, Carle, Hartnell and Leino is not a 'tweak'. Goaltending is a serious issue, but you don't need to lose 4 major contributors to fix the problem.

Look at the teams that are left and you'll see defensemen who are not all that much better than Bartulis filling in roster spots. Aaron Rome, Kent Huskins/Jason Braun, Randy Jones, Shane Hnidy. These guys were all 7/8 on the depth chart and have been forced into playoff hockey. Bartulis is much the same. Hell, the Flyers almost won a Cup with Bartulis/Parent AND Krajicek on the roster.

The window to win a Championship is small, which is why you don't make massive roster changes. The team's core is good enough to win now, unless you believe a team that played pretty terrible hockey for 40% of the season yet still managed to finish 3rd overall lacks the talent to get the job done.

Addressing goaltending without blowing the team up should be the main priority heading towards the free agency period.

I have to ask...is this what you WANT to happen or is this along the lines of what you THINK will happen? In theory, it's great but it's just unrealistic. It's incredibly rare for a team to have that much turnover in a single offseason.

I vaguely recall you having similar ideas about our lineup last offseason, unless I'm mistaken.

Pronger (4.921)-Meszaros (4.0)

We'd still need to clear at least 1.485 somehow, and I don't know how to do that. Also would still need a 13th forward. But, **** it, that's the team I really want. They'd be dirty on draws, have a real third line (for the most part), and put everyone in a defined role.
