Dan Carcillo suspended two games (to carry over to 2011/12 season)

Quote:
Philadelphia Flyers' forward Daniel Carcillo has been suspended for the period covering two regular season games, without pay, for his actions off the ice following the first period of Game #4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Boston Bruins on May 6, the National Hockey League announced today.

National Hockey League Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Mike Murphy reached the decision following a hearing into the matter on May 13. The hearing was conducted pursuant to article 18.1 (on-ice discipline) and 18.2 (off-ice discipline) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, NHL By-Law 17 and Article 6 of the NHL Constitution as a result of an incident outside of the officials' locker room following the first period and a verbal confrontation with linesman Brian Murphy at the players' bench prior to the start of the second period.

Only Carcillo can get suspended between periods and in the offseason.

"Between the first and second period, while off ice and outside the officials' locker room, Mr. Carcillo engaged in aggressive behavior and inappropriate conduct directed at the officials," said Murphy. "While Mr. Carcillo acknowledged in the hearing that he regrets his actions outside of the officials' room, there can be no defense for his conduct.

From March 2010...

http://www.csnphilly.com/03/12/10/NH...332&feedID=704

Quote:
Flyers forward Dan Carcillo will not be suspended for pushing off linesman Greg Devorski during an attempt to fight Boston’s Matt Hunwick’s during Thursday’s 5-1 loss to the Bruins.

Devorski tried to separate the two late in the two period when Carcillo struck him.

Ironically, the decision was left in left Devorski’s hands, and he cut the Flyers a break, CSNPhilly.com was told.

“I have spoken to Stephen Walkom about the play,” said Colin Campbell, the NHL’s Lord of Discipline in an e-mail to CSNPhilly.com.

“And IF Greg Devorski, who was the linesman with Carcillo, decided Carcillo needed discipline, they could apply three, 10 or 20 games themselves under Rule 41, Abuse of Officials. They decided not to and I am fine with their decision.”

I call BS. That's a BS apology. You know damn well he enjoyed every second of it.

Good on the ref. He was probably hit by accident trying to break up the fight.

Do us a favour and throw and 8 in front of that 2.

Then if you can manage to pull that off, annul the trade for Upshall and a second while you're at it.

He regrets that his actions will make him miss two games, which means he loses two opportunities to abuse other players and refs more.

Not our problem. Some other team can suffer the two games.

Thanks Danny C.

My only complaint is that it's not 80 games longer. Can we appeal it?

No need to worry, he sealed his fate as a Flyer as far as I'm concerned.

Where Carcillo goes doesn't matter to me. Im just not sure he deserved a suspension for this. The refs routinely miss/make bad calls, especially during these playoffs. Clearly their superiors aren't getting the job done because the officiating hasnt gotten any better. Players should be able to voice their opinions.

They do, but going after them between periods isn't the way to do it.

Did anyone see this:

RT @AnthonySan37: Apparently he went after them in the locker room area at the first int. and had a heated on ice chat w/ a linesman at the start of the 2nd.

RT @sbaicker: According to a witness, Jody Shelley had to pull Carcillo out of the hallway or things could have gotten worse: http://www.csnphilly.com/05/17/11/Ca...286&feedID=704

How many guys get suspended for conduct with the officials? Keep in mind Carcillo previously in his career had been given a game misconduct because he couldn't stop yelling at the refs. If he is being singled out...he had to have a lot to say, and vehemently so. And pretty soon it's going to be another team's problem.

I don't mind, sure the officials get a lot BS thrown their way, but as long as it's on the ice and in the heat of the moment, they'll just mouth back.
He crossed the line. Deal with it.

I'm not surprised, he received very, very weak cross-checking penalty which lead to BOS first goal and as mad man he was just... mad??

Actually, it's all misunderstanding, and an error by an admin assistant in the NHL offices.

She put the usual recurring weekly task "Screw the Flyers over for beating the snot out of Colon when he was a Ranger" in all the officials' calendars and forgot to delete the recurring series when the Flyers got knocked out earlier than expected.

Ha ha, a lot you know. Colons don't produce snot.

everyones on the "hate on Carcillo" bandwagon now. i saw more fight out of him this past post season than many other players on the team.

i wouldn't mind keeping him one bit. we need an enforcer and carcillo is one of the best at it.
