We need a goalie around the 4 mil range or under. How does Vokoun not make more sense than any of these other goalies?

This board is so bi-polar sometimes, its like a herd of you are some rambling mob "goalie goalie goalie". Let's not be so dramatic as to completely blow up the team for a goalie, let's work with what we have, trade assets that are worth something that we can do without (See: Versteeg/Carle etc) and get ourselves a realistic goalie. Who I might add, can probably perform on par with any of the ones mentioned if he has an average season for himself here. Yes, an average season for him will do this.
Well said. Although I'm intrigued about how Versteeg will play in a contract year...he strikes me as a paycheque player so I'd be willing to keep him until the trade deadline next year to see if we can maximize his value. But $5+ million for a goalie is nuts. $4 million should be the absolute max but I'm not even sure we'd have to pay that much given the free agent goalie market that's existed the past couple of years.

Problem solved.
No way, Crosby's health is too questionable, and Tim Thomas is too old.

Do explain. I mean Ricky D is going to be pretty excited to be off the hook.

Miller is the most overrated goalie in the league right now IMO.

Say wha...?

The guy got 11 shutouts last year. You need to be pretty damn good to do that.

Especially playing behind a defense where the oldest regular was 26 up until a late season trade and the 2nd pairing was composed of 2 rookies

Exactly. The performance he put up this year was ridiculous. How he wasn't nominated for the Vezina is beyond me.

Biggest thing that matters to me is the post season. He's never been able to really help his team in playoffs, when he is most needed, like some other "underrated" goalies..

You clearly have no idea how bad the Rangers have been offensively in recent years.

Yes i do, rangers sucks in every department. But if you look lundqvist's stats, you can see everything important in there, regular vs. playoffs.

He didn't help? They got almost no offense this year, and every loss was a 1 or 2 goal loss...Lundqvist is the only reason that series was even remotely close. And yes, although the Caps won in 5, the games individually were very tight. The team in front of him was nonexistent.

Goalie isn't the only position on the ice. He can only prevent goals, not score them. If the team isn't scoring enough goals, or playing good enough defense and hanging him out to dry, there's nothing he can do.

Edit: So...by your logic, Michael Leighton is a better goalie than Henrik.

Why waste time trying to shine light on the facts for the benefit of someone who is clearly willfully blind?

Niemi must be the greatest goaltender of all time.

He has never lost a playoff series.
