Look for the #Rangers to announce 2nd round pick Christian Thomas has signed a 3 year entry level contract.
Let's see if he can earn his way onto the NHL squad this season, so tough that's its either NHL or OHL for him

Really good news. I hope he gets a legitimate shot in camp. I don't see him making the team yet, but he can make a serious showing.

63 goals in 76 games, Rangers lack scoring, would not be surprised if he surprises and earns the 9 game tryout.

Time to step up the game on Kreider

It's NHL or Juniors for him. He won't be eligible to play in the AHL until 2012-2013.

If anything he'll return to Oshawa for another year and make the Rangers in 2012-2013 if he's ready.

If he goes back to Juniors, the 1st year of the contract is delayed right? Hard for me to get excited about this because I don't picture him making the team out of camp, but I'd love to be wrong.

I think he definitely gets 9 games with the Rangers. The last prospect with this scoring touch we had was Cherepanov.

Great for Thomas. I think it will be very interesting to see how he plays at the prospects tournament and in the preseason. Torts hasn't been shy about keeping kids around throughout training camp.

The Thomas contract will slide to 12-13 if he doesn't play in 10 NHL games in 11-12. McIlrath is in the same situation.

Quote:
(d) (i) In the event that an 18 year old or 19 year old Player signs an SPC
with a Club but does not play at least ten (10) NHL Games in the first season under that
SPC, the term of his SPC and his number of years in the Entry Level System shall be
extended for a period of one (1) year
, except that this automatic extension will not apply
to a Player who is 19 according to Section 9.2 by virtue of turning 20 between September
16 and December 31 in the year in which he first signs an SPC. Unless a Player and Club
expressly agree to the contrary, in the event a Player's SPC is extended an additional year
in accordance with this subsection, all terms of the SPC, with the exception of Signing
Bonuses, but including Paragraph 1 Salary, games played bonuses and Exhibit 5 bonuses,
shall be extended; provided, however, that the Player's Paragraph 1 Salary shall be
extended in all circumstances.
Both contracts will count against the 50 SPC limit right now.

Quote:
(a) Not more than 50 Players signed to an SPC and not less than 24 Players
and 3 goalkeepers under an SPC. Age 18 and age 19 Players who were returned to
Juniors, and who have not played 11 NHL Games in one season, shall be exempt from
inclusion in the 50 Player limit
.

Would love to see him pull a Skinner next season and shock the world, but I'm fine with him going back to junior and continue to learn and work hard. High hopes, real expectations.

i don't think he will be kept for those 9 games...if he is still here when the season starts is will be because he won a spot and they expect him to stay all year.

some teams might keep a guy for those 9 games for the experience without the intention of keeping him up beyond that, i just don't see us doing that.
