I have a feeling they will be called something else. Maybe the Winnipeg Floods or something and keep the same colors.

Agreed. The NHL owns the Yotes, who hold the Jets name and rights. Sell it to Winnipeg for a relatively nominal fee + some % of the merchandise and be done with it. The Coyotes aren't using it, they may as well make some money off of it.

Winnipeg's team should be called the Jets. It will bring back all old Jets fans instantly and is a recognizable brand to sell to local sponsors. Both those things should help increase overall league revenue.

That's like moving the Oilers arena now and putting it out in Wetaskiwin and still hoping that everyone is gonna come.
If you put an arena inbetween Regina and Saskatoon in the middle of a farmers field and gave them a Nhl franchise Everybody would still come.

People are going to support the team regardless if it is called the Jets or not. If they called them the Jets, they would most definitely get a new jersey instead of using the old 80s/90s one.

On the flippant side - why would the city want to be tied to a legacy that was unable to remain in the city and now the team is sitting in Phoenix? That franchise was the Jets - let them fester in their own stench.
I'm sure the fans of Minnesota would have preferred North Stars if it were feasible. Obviously they wouldn't turn their back on the team over a name, and neither will Winnipegers, but it's tough to argue there is a better name out there than the Jets.

Yeah, if the Coyotes were the Phoenix Coyote Jets, then there would obviously be a need for a new name. They aren't so there isn't.

But life goes on and if the team ends up in Winnipeg, will anyone really refuse to show up for games because of the name.

There are several better names - how about one that actually has something to do with the province, unlike the reason for the original name of "Jets"...

The most we've spend in customs was an hour and that was when we went to California one year for Christmas and to Florida another Christmas. Most times it takes us 20 minutes and that was also coming from the US.

Considering the NHL hasn't got to the point where European teams have with all the ******** logos of companiess that sponsor the team. As long as it isn't some cliche cougars, or wildcats or name that has seen its time theres really nothing wrong with a name change. I used to hate the name Oil Kings it grew on me.

Yeah, no one seemed to mind in Calgary when the team coming to town retained their name...they were happy to watch NHL hockey in their town.

Probably didn't hurt that the word is associated with oil & gas, and that their new provincial rival also had a similar name.

I've had an epiphany.

Get Disney on the phone! Time to sponsor another hockey team.

I believe the name Flames refers to the burning of Atlanta, not with anything to do with Oil or Gas.
