So if I read Meltzer's article correctly, Moskovsky Komsomolets is basically Russia's version of the "National Enquirer"...

Interesting.

Supposedly it could be bs. Or at least 1/2 a Cup of BS.

There are conflicting reports out of Russia on this, some witnesses saying it was nothing so severe.

Is there damage to the car consistent with the first account?

I think Zherdev was just pissed that he found out that his wife was Timmy P's "inside source" all along.

All she had to do to get away was shift the car into reverse, because we all know Zherdev doesn't backcheck.

I heard she was demanding more playing time.

I don't mean to derail this awesome thread but I'm hoping you guys can tell me about Zherdev as a player. I've suddenly become a Thrashers fan and they need to sign a RW this summer. I'm thinking he could fit on a scoring line beside Antropov. What does he do well and what does he not do well?

Does well: Shooting

Doesn't do well: Setting up teammates, being on the same page as the rest of the team, communication, pleasing coaches, putting forth effort for more than 5 shifts per game

Doesn't do: Defense

You don't want him. He was in and out of the doghouse all year. He would come back, play well for a game, then slide again and was back in the press box. There was one game against Carolina where he was a healthy scratch, Richards became really sick with the flu and couldn't start so they looked for Zherdev and couldn't find him. That pretty much sums him up.

Coincidence? I think not.

DOES WELL:
Deke
Shoot
Try to become a one man army

NEGATIVES:
Pass, Backcheck, Get along with teammates, Communicate, Follow what the coach tells him to do, complain when coach benches him for not listening, putting forth effort in games he doesnt come up off of a 10+ game scratched streak, trying to be a one man army and fails.

Thanks guys.

From the sounds of it Zherdev will be lucky to get a contract in North America this summer.

I really like Zherdev. The guy has so much skill and potential. He is just a stubborn man who wants to play the game his way because he thinks hes too good for others advice. At the end of the year, after he got cleared through waivers, reality seemed to set in. He was trying so hard to be defensively responsible and even had some nice steals via the backcheck. I really want to see the guy succeed and become what he has the potential to be. If he keeps up the effort that he showed post-waivers, there is still hope for him. If he gets another chance in the NHL, it is without a doubt his last and I think he knows this.

That's about right. He successfully passed through waivers. Not one single team fighting for a playoff spot was interested in him at half price, despite his fairly impressive goals per TOI stat or whatever it is.
