shame for atlanta fans, they never had a real chance, 11 seasons, 0 playoff wins, countless busts & star players leaving... ouch.

imo, nashville shifts over to the SE, dallas to the central, colorado to the pacific, & winnipeg to the NW.

I cant see any teams other than detroit and columbus playing in the east next year. I dont think the NHL would want its eastern conference teams playing more games at later start times

Yeah, I personally think it's a stupid idea, but it kind of seems plausible, given the NHL's recent "You know what...let's wait it out" type of attitude. It's been clear that they want to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix and they didn't let ASG start looking for buyers until like December. They obviously don't like "rushing into things".

I wouldn't be shocked if the NHL moved Pittsburgh into the SE so there would be 6 games of OV vs Crosby to blather about.

I am pissed. The team was not given a chance. Whether it be the ASG, or that retard Don Waddell who put this team through a 10 year re-build. They finally get a guy like Dudley in there and he makes some great moves, but it's too late.

Now I can't see the Flyers in person anymore. ****

First off, if Atlanta does move to Winnipeg, the Jets will stay in the Southeast division for one year (2011-2012 season). The NHL will use that year to realign the teams and what not.

And second, I have a question; let's say someone was a diehard Jets fan their entire life, but when the Jets moved they decided to become a fan of another team (like Montreal) and fell dearly in love with the city and it's team. Do they stick with the Canadiens now? Or go fly with the Jets? Lool I'd pay good money to watch a person go through that kind of conflict

Confirming Brunt story #Winnipeg deal done. Told Thomson/Chipman in full partnership. Hear re-location fee alone for #NHL between 50-60M.

I hope the NHL tells Det and CBJ to screw off, and moves NSH to the SE. The Atlantic division is a really good setup, a lot of good teams, plus the Islanders.

This really sucks for Atlanta and its fans it will be a very long time if ever another team is in Atlanta now that they have had 2 teams and both were relocated.

That being said I'm glad to see Winnipeg get a new team and would like to see QC get one soon as well. I like hockey and Canada deserves to have more teams. There fans are diehard and for good reason.

As far as Division re-alignment goes, there is talks that Detroit has an agreement to go to the east should anything such as this occurs. Who knows if its true or not but it begs the question of where they would be put as the SE is definitely not an option as well as who would be put in the SE. Personally it makes much more sense to put Winnipeg in NW, Minnesota to Central, and Nashville to the SE. Or just do away with divisions all together or have less divisions say a North East, Central, West and South or something of the sort.

If Detroit leaves the West it would be a devastating blow

Detroit is the #1 draw on road and as a Hawk fans it would be devastating to have no original 6 rivals and to only have 1 traditional rival left

We lost the rivalries with Bruins and Habs in late 70's , Lost the Northstars and Leafs in 90's. Losing Red Wings would leave just Hawks and Blues from Norris

No way Dett comes east. It would have to be Columbus first.

I believe it's basically between Columbus and Nashville. There's no way the owners in the West are going to let an Original 6 team and its fanbase go, and there's no way the owners in the East feel like competing with Detroit annually.

Good chance Detroit comes East. They've been wanting to switch for a long time, and they were promised a switch after they were passed over with the last realignment. Get ready for playoff battles in Motown.

I'll put my money on Nashville coming over if the league has any common sense.

So I guess it's between Detroit and Columbus

knowing first hand what it is like seeing your team leave a city, my heart goes out to
the true atlanta fans
being from winnipeg, we are all just going nutso now, having the team ( yes, not officially, but pretty close )
folks are already piling down to portage and main here in the peg
i would be there too, but i gotta work in the morning
I'm sure the festivities will be going on , all weekend (loooong weeekend )
gonna be nice to actually go and watch some flyers games again and I am very happy

its gonna be great and hope they stay in the southeast for this year too
more flyers and washington visits

Hold on dude, I was just asking about this. So you're from Winnipeg right? Were you a Jets fan and switched to Flyers when they left? And have you considered cheering for the Jets now that they're coming back?

Interesting point I just read. David Thomson, one of the billionaire owners of TNSE (the company buying the team) owns the Globe & Mail (the paper that I posted and reported this news).

Seems to give it a little bit more credibility.

That promise has been disputed for sometime

+ They would need the BOG support

14 owners in west would vote no especialy Wirtz and Blues owners (Whoever they will be). I am sure several East teams will not want Wings in conference as well
