Atlanta Affiliate

What happens to there Minor League Affiliate in Chicago? Is this a rumor? I mean when the Thrashers leave to go to Winnipeg who is there affiliate going to be?

I would assume it to stay Chicago for the time being

Might still be Chicago anyway. Manitoba Moose would relocate or go inactive (more likely), so there would be 1 less AHL team next season (most likely). Wolves are not owned by Atlanta, so they can affiliate with anyone they make an agreement with.

Atlanta currently has no AHL or ECHL affiliate, both the Chicago Wolves and Gwinnett Gladiators ended their relationships with the Thrashers at the end of this season.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see the guys who run the Glads try and get Manitoba's AHL license. Since Charlotte is now in the AHL, Gwinnett could be, too. They've already got a brilliant arena, and a great operation. It'd be disgusting to see them become Winnipeg's affiliate, but whatever.

Move the Wolves to Atlanta and have them play at Philips as the peggers farm club. We have the calendar space open to fit them in

I have read on two other message board (one a quote from the Wolves booster club president) that they ended their affiliation two weeks ago.

The AHL, in this article from last month, says it plans to eventually relocate the Manitoba franchise.

Maybe it could be relocated to Atlanta?

I think it would be great if the ATL farm was moved to ATL. Maybe all the players could ask to be sent down and they could be the best damn AHL team ever.

It looks like the front runners for a relocated Moose franchise are St. Johns and Thunder Bay.

This town won't support anything associated with the NHL for decades, let alone becoming home to the AHL affiliate to the team that abandoned them.

Get the affiliate for Nashville, Tampa Bay, or Florida. A regional team that could derive a benefit from the geography, and not too far for us to travel to see the big club. Or just keep the ECHL team. I'm ok with it. It was well over a decade before we got another pro club after the Flames left, I think, so we're already ahead of that with Gwinnett saying they aren't going anywhere.

It'll be going to Thunder Bay if that's the case, St. Johns has the Sea Dogs (QMJHL team) who are just about to host the Memorial Cup tomorrow. If an AHL team moves their, the Q team will have to move, and there's no real many locations for the Dogs to go (except for Laval, which has had something like five teams).... Maybe Verdun, but doubt it. There's also Hull & Granby as possible locations, but you know.

tl;dr- Thunder Bay will get the new AHL franchise if true.

You're thinking of Saint John, not St. John's.

It was worse back in the late 90s, when the AHL had both the St. John's Maple Leafs and the Saint John Flames.

St. John's is currently without a club, after the Fog Devils moved to Verdun.

I don't think the AHL has had a team in the Maritimes since 2003.

Yep...Because Ice Edge Holdings (Who used to be trying to buy the Yotes) pulled out to focus their efforts on the Thunder Bay project. I'd say it's all but a done deal.

Thunder Bay makes a lot more sense for Winnipeg geographically. It's only an hour flight direct.
