The players aren't going to know what hit them. Will you still cheer for Philly?

NHL.com posts an unconfirmed and unsubstantiated report of the sale!

That's got to say something, doesn't it?! What a joke, how can the official league site post this??

Of course, FLyers 1st forever. Was never a big Jets fan, most people in Flin Flon were Flyers fans. I moved here in 1994 for college, and went to maybe 10 games a year. Going to be awesome to be able to go watch hockey and have a 2nd team to follow !

That did not happen when Jets moved

"Moose" would be just about the worst thing possible.

Would Phoenix really put that much of a stink over it? I dont know. I disagree it will not be the Moose. i think it will be the Jets or another name by fanvote.

They should go with: Red River Rebellion.

Even though it goes against my pure hatred of nicknames that don't end in 's', it's a reference to a pretty tumultuous time in Canadian history... and an alliteration!

Pretty sure that Ducks is still the worst nickname in existence. But Marty Moose wouldn't be too far behind.

Maybe the NHL will adopt the mathematics of MLB and have an uneven amount of teams per division. Six in the NL Central, 4 in the AL West and five in the others. I say that in jest, maybe not.

I think Columbus and Nashville will both move east before Detroit does. Detroit will be the last of those three to move. Moving Detroit takes away a marketable rivalry with the new golden calf that is Chicago, who pretty much only gets on TV when they play Detroit or someone from the East.

Are you serious? That name is awesome And to be fair, us being Flyers fans, I don't think we can make much fun of other teams' nicknames

It is retarded that a team changes their city, name, jersey colors, essentially all of their identity but still want the benefits of tradition. Phoenix honoring winnipeg players and keeping old records was weird i thought. If you move and change on that level then you should act like what you are, a team starting from scratch. If they dont want to be the Jets because they have a better idea, fine. but dont change because of the coyotes. also, even though it wouldnt be the avalanche going back, if quebec gets a team, they should definately still be the nordiques. theres nothin more quebecish than the nordiques. the best will be phoenix vs. winnipeg and colorado vs. quebec. and cant wait to watch flyers kick both their expansion a s s e s.

umm...not really, The Hawks literally (this year especially) have been shoved down our throats. They've been airing Chicago games that are important to Chicago (point wise/standings). Like when the West got really intense down the stretch and everyone started fighting like crazy for those last spots, they aired so many Hawks games on Versus like the Hawks vs Wild, Hawks vs Blues, Hawks vs Sharks, games that were mainly important to Chicago. And then the announcers (Doc, Priere, Eddie, John Forslund, Daryl Reaugh etc...) were complete homers to the point that you actually felt like you were listening to Chicago announcers. Then of course the Canadian media (TSN & CBC) aired all the Chicago vs Vancouver games (because of the rivalry) and then on top of that, Versus also aired games that involved Detroit and Eastern teams (not to mention they had like 4 NBC games)...so yeah, Chicago got A LOT of air time this year...

You're right though that they are getting shoved down our throats because they're "the new golden calf" and also because they won the cup last year.

I don't now the history at all, but Red River Rebellion would actually be a pretty cool name for a team.

Sadly.. the mascot is Mick E. Moose. I kid you not. Kids love him though, including my 4 year old daughter who just asked tonight if we can go see him again. Hopefully we can go see Benny instead!
