Maybe I'm delusional here. Is 20-25pts too much to expect out of him?
I don't think so, even so he has not been the most stellar of offensive players on the team I do believe he has better skills than what he has shown on the ice and stat sheet.

We should bring the shot club back and make Zharkov a member.

If he can do 8-10gs cool, but what I would like to see if 2-3 or those can come SH. Been a long time since the team has had a SH threat. Granted, if he can't bury ES opportunities there's no guarantee he will do it in the few SH chances he might get. Meaningless game or not, that last goal he scored and the way he did it should give him some confidence going forward.

The Devils are only a threat to score shorties when Elias or Parise are killing penalties, and that's not always feasible.

The way I see it, this team needs Zharkov. What it doesn't need are any more players like Zharkov. Having Mair, Pelley, Sestito, and the like along with Zharkov is just overkill and BEGGING to have another season of last place in goals for. But none of them are up to par with Zhark on the defensive side, and I honestly think Zharkov is way ahead of them offensively. He's shown that he has good vision and can make some surprisingly nice passes. But when you're playing with Steckel and Pelley, who's gonna finish those chances?

I smell an HF drinking game in the making... Could have excellent cross-marketing tie ins with the Who's Drunks thread.

What would the rule be? Drink when Zharkov misses/hits/fans on the shot?

I'm actually not too worried about Zharkov putting points on the board. You can argue we had a pretty horribad offensive system in place last year which really didn't benefit anyone on the team. I'm still of the school of thought that you can have a defensive fourth line where any offense they generate is an added bonus.

With our top 6 being as loaded as it's likely to be next year we are hopefully not going to be living and dying on Zharkov's offense. I know we need clutch secondary/tertiary scoring, and when the time comes we may need to see him rise to the occasion. Zharkov is still good enough to have earned a roster spot next year and give him a shot at > 40 games. On the bright side, he equaled Mair's points in like 27 less games. So... there's that...

Scoring
- take a drink when he shoots at the net without getting a shot on goal
- take 2 drinks if he shoots at net and hits the goalie/post/crossbar
- drink a shot, finish your beer if he scores
- drink if he gets an assist

Gameplay
- drink if he intercepts a pass
- drink if he stick lifts an opponent and gets the puck
- drink if he draws a penalty
- drink if he is out on the PP/PK
- shotgun full beer if he knocks net off

Announcers
- drink anytime he is called Vladimir
- finish your drink anytime he is interviewed
- take a shot/finish drink if they call him Sharky

If its an away feed, he's guaranteed to be called sharky once. Add in PK time and time on the ice before steckel gets on and your open tab will be thanking you.

I agree 100%. He's responsible defensively and he's great at creating forechecking pressure with his speed. I liked how JL gave him spot duty killing penalties late in the year too, I think that's a role he could be very effective playing. It would be nice if he could chip in more points, but the reality is, we have a lot of goal scoring power on the right wing, so even if he gets around 15-20 points in a full 82 game season, for a guy that's likely going to play on the 4th line, that's decent production and I don't think too unreasonable to expect.

I think he will be there opening night. Don't know what kind of role he will have though. Hard to say right now.

If nothing else, he's the best 4th liner currently on the team, so he should make the opening night roster on at least the 4th line.

wonder if he could be taught to play center? a strength of his seems to be his hockey sense. i think he would be a good fourth line centerman and waive steckel or something to that effect then bring in a gritty guy to take the left side with clarkson on the right (suggested carcillo if philly walks away from him but that had mixed responses). and have an actual energy line that can play hockey unlike the last "energy line", rasmussen-weimer-janssen

Why wouldn't you just have Pelley take the draws then and have them switch it up after? Or just leave him on Pelley's wing. Or get rid of Clarkson and put Henrique on the line as centre. But mostly get rid of Clarkson and his contract.

I really like his game except for the finishing aspect. The other problem facing Zarkhov, is out depth at forward, especailly if we draft Couturier or Landeskog and make the team.

Forwards:

Kovy-Zajac-Nick
Parise-Elias-Rolston
Zub-Josefson-Teddy
Clarkson-Stekle-Henrique
Zarkov & Pelley
(Possibly one of Courturier or Landeskog)

Unless Lou's moves Stek, it may be hard for Zarkhov to get some playing time. Henrique's potential offensive production can't be ignored.

I am pretty sure Zarkhov is ahead of Henrique on the depth chart, don't underestimate how much value the Devils put into defensive forwards like him, case in point Pandolfo.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Zharkov has more NHL goals than does Henrique. Both could score at the AHL level and we see that it hasn't yet transferred for Zharkov. Who knows if it will for Henrique.

That said, I really do like Henrique and hope he's on the team next season. Just get rid of Steckel and make Henrique the 4th line center.
