Landing sites for Alex Kovalev

Pittsburgh or Montreal next year?

He will come cheap or not at all, meaning he will go play for the KHL where he could make multiple times the amount of money he would next year. I don't see him signing anything more than a one year contract with anyone.

Thoughts?

Montreal will not take him back. I think it is KHL or nothing for him at this point.

Probably should retire, his gas tank is pretty much empty.

I think he is done...that being said, he could sign for 1M somewhere and be a real steal...

Florida.

Not the Panthers, nor the Lightning. I mean he should move to a retirement home in Florida.

Which team needs a floater that brings some shootout happiness? There's your answer

If hockey had the equivalent of baseball's DH, but for shootouts 30 teams would take Kovy in a heartbeat.

In reality he's done.

KHL makes a lot more sense given Kovalev's history of being a bit of a money-grubbing floater.

That said, I'm sure there are SEVERAL teams that would take him on a cheap one-year contract. I just don't think that would appeal him if the KHL is willing to give him four times the money tax-free.

KHL is having financial issues though, so who knows.

Wasn't really impressed during his latest stint in Pitt. He's slow as molasses now...think he's done unfortunately.

He has always been one of my favorite players. I was excited when he cam back to Pittsburgh. But I don't think it really worked out as planned and I don't think he will be returning. Unless he takes something around a 1yr deal for somewhere between $1-2 Million dollars. I think playing with a Crosby or Malkin he would be better. But I think he ends up in somwhere like Washington for a last gig.

If no one is left in the FA market I could see Montreal going after him. Him, Plek, and AK46 had pretty good chemistry that one season a few years back. He'd be pretty cheap and decent in our top 9.

$ 1M

4th line, PP, and shootout specialist would make the most sense
