Philly - Edm

Philly has an abundance of center talent and is probably looking to dump some salary to address their goalie situation. We need an upgrade at center and RNH (I'm assuming and hoping thats who we draft) won't fill the #1C roll for a while, and might be best suited as an awesome #2C....who knows at this point. I would love to pencil in Briere's name but Carter is the obvious choice with no NTC/NMC. I'm tired of the losing, my patience has run out, and without a move like this we will be in the basement for another 2 or so years IMO. I'm sure the Carter proposals have flown already, but humour me with your input.

To EDM:
Jeff Carter

To PHILLY:
Sam Gagner
19th overall
31st overall

Hall Carter Hemsky
Pajarrvi RNH Eberle

Pretty wicked top 6, and I could only imagine the damage the PP would cause. It would instantly fill our biggest hole. Flame away Gagner lovers!

I would do it.. not sure if the Flyers would though.. unless they can package Gagner and those picks for something that could help them win now.

I'm sure Philly is looking for a borderline #2C as the centerpiece for Jeff Carter.

I'm a Gagner supporter and I like it. I can guarantee you that you won't find a single non-oiler fan that will think its fair value thought.

Bringing in the Carter would speed up the rebuild, because it would mean we wouldn't have to wait 2/3/4 years to finally have a legit #1 C. That, along with resigning Hemsky would be pretty sweet.

I prefer

Paajarvi-Carter-Hemsky
Hall-Couturier-Eberle

Carter is signed to an 11 year deal at nearly a 6 million cap hit. That's far too long. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player and I don't think the Flyers do this deal, but that is a long time to be committed to a player.

When you put names to the 19th and 31st picks the deal isn't that bad IMO. Packages are always blown out of proportion on these boards compared to what usually goes down in the real world. Philly also thinks about it to save money. But maybe this package would be more enticing for the Philly fans then...

Gagner
2011 19th overall
2012 1st round
Prospect?

That's your opinion. But being 30th in total points this year and 13th for Centers....I'm a pretty big fan.

And that's what I was trying to illustrate. Where's the happy medium?? Firstly, having Carter on the team and possibly adding another solid defender, would most likely have us around 10th overall next year, maybe better. I know it's a stronger draft but the difference between this years 31st overall and next years 10th isn't THAT huge of a gap to where someone says it's too much or too little to get the deal done.

The only way Gagner, the 19th or the 31st is in play is if it allows us a second shot in that top 6 this summer. Hopkins goes back to Red Deer after 9 games and whomever we land if we're fortunate, be it Couturier,Strome or Huberdeau, sticks with the Oilers. This meshes with the plans going forward and maybe also insures a lottery selection next summer.

there is likely no happy medium unless flyers are doing the move to shed salary and aren't looking for fair value

the deal I could see is Carter for MPS. The only way Philly is trading Carter is if they are looking for a large salary cap savings. MPS has 2 more years at 1.525 cap hit while Gagner is 2.275 this year and probably over 3 the year after.

Philly might have always had a shine for MPS and see his potential. Normally, there would be no way a rebuilding teams trades a kid but Carter is signed for 11 more years (he is committed for 5 more years than MPS.)

unliley but ??

We have enough talent as it is. Proven NHlers and Vets are what the kids need....not another kid. What kinda of Mary-Jane are you smoking to say that this team is worse with Carter and RNH as the top two centers compared to Gags and Horc?? You might wanna return your crystal ball.

I also have to disagree with this... if Philly would accept those 3 pieces for Carter I would take it and run!

We have to stop thinking about lottery picks. Hall, Hopkins, Eberle, Paajarvi, Marincin, Petry, Hartikainen, Lander, Pitlick, Hamilton, Tuebert etc... We have more than enough young talent, these kids NEED veterans.

If I do that trade, I also do whatever I can to get rid of Khabi, sign Vokoun and a guy like Wisniewsky? You don't make that trade unless you want to make the team competitive.

Hall Carter Hemsky
Paajarvi Hopkins Eberle
Hartikainen Horcoff Omark
Jones VandeVelde Brule

Whitney Gilbert
Smid Wisniewsky
Petry Peckham
Teubert

Vokoun
Dubnyk

Imo that team makes the playoffs. Maybe replace Brule with someone more experienced too?

I do it

but it would be interesting to see if the flyers would do it

also

I believe the flyers are going big game hunting in net and Carter will be the piece of the puzzle that will be key for them

I like the deal and do it in a heartbeat, Carter is a very good player. Imagine the options Hemsky could have dishing the puck to 2 actual goal scorers Carter and Hall, I wonder if he would still hold onto it forever!

Take out the prospect and switch the 19th to 31st and I'd happily do it. The addition of Jeff Carter would take us out of having a chance at the lottery pick

Having a player like Jeff Carter added to our team would be nice, but we would still need another 3 years to develop our D's so why not get our C's at draft as well and for cheaper instead of having to commit to 11 years. Anything can happen between now and 11 years.

If Jeff Carter can't lead the Flyers then why the frigg do we want him here....because he's almost good enough? He's a second line center at best on a good hockey club, a poor mans Mike Richards.....that's a gross over payment to begin with, get off the pot.

Gagner and the 19th and the 31st for a future 2nd line center, yeah, you kids know what you're doing alright. Have at'er idiots. I'll take my chances that a Couturier,Strome or Huberdeau surpasses what Carter can do.

The only way I'd move Gagner, the 19th and 31st is for a good Dman. We can get our #1C in RNH and another #2C next year.
