I am still mad at him and love every minute of his failures but if Lou felt that he could help I could understand - mainly because he doesn't have a NMC so you could bury his salary and I think on a re entry salary he is tradeable. Going into next season with unproven Josefson and Henrique (who I think may end up a winger in the long haul) is a risk. I have no doubt those two are the real deal but if Lou wants a go for it this season for Marty, Gomez is a no risk option in the sense that you could probably trade and at the least bury him if fails. He is on the way down but could possibly wake up and be revitalized and click well with Kovalchuk the way he did with Mogilny. The style seems like a fit and would let Kovy shoot more one timers. The really big thing comes down to if he has grown up at all from the experience of this past few years at all. If he has, well again I could see Lou considering it but do not care at all if he does not.

He left the Devils to get a big payday from the Rangers (I don't care if Lou never offered him a contract).... Nuff said.

What's with all the nostalgia for former players? Find the winners of the future, not the has-beens of the past.

Arnott, Holik, Rolston, even Shanahan to a degree. Lou seems to love it.

For this reason alone, I don't want Gomez back. I'm not into the hating, he's not some girlfriend that cheated on me, just a player who made a career decision. But yes, stop the fail of getting oldies back.

What you're saying is that you want Gionta, Gomez, Madden, Souray, and umm Kirk Muller back next year?

I AM into the hating, but even when I try to take a step back and try to logically look at this hypothetical situation of taking Gomez off of waivers, I still don't want him back. Every time Lou has brought back a player, they're never what they were the first time around. I don't think Gomez would be an exception to this pattern, and that cap hit wouldn't be worth it.

why would gomez fit so well with kovy? kovy doesnt need help moving the puck up the ice...he and gomer have very similar styles, not sure if having both on one line would work anyway.

at any rate, for million of different reasons, i dont want pablo on the team

I was thinking this would be about 95-5% against bringing him back, but almost 20% want him back?

And at the way he is playing I think at a 50% discount he is still overpaid.

Trading one overpaid aging player with only a year left for another overpaid aging player with 3 years left?

Especially former players who were hated during their time here.

Nostalgia has nothing to do with it, everyone on here has pretty much panned the guy - has to do with filling a need. Basically we are banking our 2nd line center on a player who has traditionally played wing, our 3rd line center on a rookie and our 4th line center on a faceoff winner who does not much else. A trap breaking center who either had an off year or is on the decline - but you can get him at half price without risk of a permanent cap hit if he fails - if it was anyone other than Gomez we would consider it.

As for his style meshing with Kovalchuk - yes Kovalchuk can rush up ice but he really serves better as the trailer who can unleash his one timer. Gomez has shown in the past the ability to gain the zone with speed and turn and find the trailing winger. That should (and I say should because chemistry is a fickle thing) mesh with Kovalchuk's strength - which is his one timer blast.

Again to me it all comes down to - are we really going for it next year or are we content to let the chips fall where they may and it is really about growing Josefson, Tedenby Henrique and maybe some other kids. If so than definitely not but if it's one last shot for Marty - I wouldn't so easily dismiss it.

I don't see why he couldn't return to being a 60+ point guy like he has throughout his career in NJ with our depth on wing, and 3.7 mill is a good cap for that.

I liked Gomez a lot when I met him, and while I hated it when he left, it is what happens in professional sports, athletes like everyone want money. I would rather have had another team have him for over 7 mill for that (I guaranteed if NJ matched what NY offered he would have singed in NJ).

I'd pick him up. He makes his wingers better, and we have a glut of excellent wingers that could use a good playmaking center.

The playing season waiver period begins on the 12th day prior to the start of the regular season and ends on the day following the last day of a team's regular season.

Teams can be 10% over the cap until opening night.

Lou would have to hold the cap space available until Montreal decided to waive and recall Gomez.

That's $3.7 million of cap space missing the start of camp.

yes he is a playmaking center something we have not had since a guy named scott gomez

as i was happy to see him go, taking the ego out of play for everyone his style of play is missed in nj. so at 3.7 million who knows but he is the tyype of player we need

enjoy the summer

I don't understand why people would want him, just my opinion. We hated him years ago and that was when he was productive. Nobody would have dreamed of welcoming him back then. Now he's older and way worse.

2 seasons ago I'd consider this seriously. Now, I think the center position has more potential and is deeper. Considering the cap hit at even half price, I'd say no now. I still like him as a player and would take him back, but not at 3.whatever it is. It's a little too much.
