A player like Clarkson could be of interest to the Habs. However, you really need to wait on that. See how the rest of the payroll shakes out, because Clarkson's contract is a huge premium for what he does, and it's likely/hopeful that the Habs won't have any room to take on any more premium contracts. Chasing a physical winger on the UFA market would be a priority ahead of trading for Clarkson too.
But I guess if for some reason you hit August, didn't have anybody left to sign in that role as a UFA, had oodles of cap-space remaining... well, maybe. Mind you, by that time the Devils will have their payroll sorted out too, and if LL loves Clarkson so much, I guess there would be no further point to them just dumping him off before camp.
At his contract, Devils would need to be sending a promising prospect along for a 4th or 5th rounder.
Palmieri/Clarkson for a third/Carle
no way, ive seen carle play in the ahl and was not impressed at all. and palmieri looks to have a spot in the top 6 if he can build off his stint this past year.
Clarkson has 0 value at his contract. You're paying us so you can keep Parise.
Mod edit:
You know we can give him a 7mil contract per year, and still sign all of our others Free Agents right ??
KK, good thing you just listen to all of HF who say that to give there minds a pipedream of signing Parise. When really we have enough cap space, and dont need to trade anyone to sign Parise

Other than Cal Clutterbuck, Clarkson is pretty much exactly what Montreal needs, I don't know why Hab fans are being so hard on him.
Maybe NJ could use Spacek(+3rd), with a $63M cap they won't have any trouble fitting him under it. If not then a 3rd round pick is a great price to pay for an NHLer.

definitely no to spacek. we can't take on salary AND add a 35+ contract just to be rid of Clarkson. besides i think Lou believes that Clarkson can turn his game around next year
Not many devils earned their paycheck last year. Clarkson was one of them. It's amazing what a coach can do. He played a lot better near the end if the year. The year before he played a lot better and earned a nice paycheck. He could return to that form as a third line 25 goal guy.
Trade for Clarkson, sign Torres and your 3rd line is basically set.
Maybe Pouliot + 4th/5th for Clarkson?
Depends on how much Pouliot is going to want in RFA. Actually, if he wants too much, he can go UFA. Done.

No thanks. I'd prefer not to include Palmieri for that package.

Not touching Spacek. Keep him. We'll take the 3rd for him though.
NJ adds skilled depth players, while Mtl adds gritty depth players. Mtl gets the slightly better quality of players, NJ gets the extra pick, a small cap savings now and 2.7M$ off the books for 2012.
both teams get a bit of what they need, depth-wise, neither team gives up a hugely valuable asset.
