Shane Doan to NJ

What would it take?

I love the game that Doan plays -- play-maker mixed with goal scorer mixed with seasoned veteran mixed with chippy physicality... it's a great package that the Devils would love to have on their roster. Think... Langenbrunner before he....er...changed.

I know NJ has a bunch of wingers in their system, but what would have to be done to fit Doan into the lineup? Who would be moved, and who would be going back?

Doan carries a $4.55M contract for one more season.

Isn't he in his mid 30s? I like Doan but he's too old for my wanting.

He's 34, I believe.

To tell you the truth, I'm willing to take him on, despite his age and contract, for one year. He's got what it takes to be a really, really good leader on this Devils team. He'd be like the Langenbrunner before the Lemaire run-in.

I think he'd be the player Lou thought he was getting when he traded for Arnott. Which I'm totally OK with.

NMC and Doan has made it clear he likes Phoenix and will retire there

I highly doubt that as I don't recall Arnott being very physical whereas Doan is a monster power forward.

Assume Phoenix/Winnipeg dont win a SC anytime soon, I can see them trading Doan before he retires so he can have a real shot at the Cup.

If we somehow unload Rolston, than sure.

If the Devils can unload Rolston and any other high-paid wingers (except the obvious...Kovy, Elias)... that would be the only way this would happen.

Being moved to New Jersey would give Doan his chance to prove himself that he is a true winner, and would give him his first true shot at the Stanley Cup.

We don't have space for Doan, and he would cost too much.

He will retire in Phoenix. as early as the end of next season (if franchise relocates). He's not moving. That ship has sailed.

We didn't even make the playoffs last season. Lets get a few defenseman and a good coach before we anoint ourselves SC contenders again. We haven't done jack **** since 2003 and as of right now he'd have just a good of chance winning with the Coyotes then with the Devils.

You're right.. taking a bit too much for granted.

I just can't see the players, let alone the organization, settle for another season like last season. If our new coach screws up, he'll be gone in November. Lou will have a MUCH shorter leash this time. around.

Keep in mind that Doan is like a cross between Elias and Daneyko to that franchise. He's been there since the beginning, stuck with the team through everything it went through and in most years was their best offensive player. They're not going to try and unload him and he has the NMC.

Not a chance Phoenix moves Doan. He's their Lidstrom, so to speak.

I believe there is only one place Doan would accept a trade to...Winnipeg when/if Atlanta moves there...which is about a 99.9% guarantee that relocation will occur. I could see him wanting to end his career in the city where it began.

Yandle + Doan for Parise + Palmieri +2nd + 4th

Phoenix gets an elite offensive player. NJ gets a great puck-moving d-man and a heart and Powerforward. A lot of ifs have to happen for either team to consider this trade though.

The value seems right to me, but I'm not sure either team would make a trade like that.
