When the Habs made him available past summer, I was stunned the Flyers didnt get him. He was the right one for them. The missing piece. He would certainly have been more useful to Philadelphia than Jeff Carter's one goal during playoffs.

Probably not, since the Habs ended with Eller and Schultz. This is more valuable than a 2nd and Hartnell but I agree Hartnell is a good player to have in the lineup. And he would have solve the Habs biggest problem too.
Carter had a sprained MCL and a hip that almost needed post season surgery. I like Halak but not for Carter.

I'd kinda prefer to hang onto our most valuable player and sole reason for even sniffing the post season the last two years.

There are several defenseman just as good or better than Carle up for free agency this summer so I wouldn't imagine that the trade market for him is going to be all that hot. Still, Detroit just lost Rafalski to retirement losing Lidstrom to the same thing would leave to major gaps and it's likely to happen. Signing a guy like Pitkanen only fills one hole.

Versteeg & Carle to Detroit
for
Jiri Hudler & Landon Ferraro to Philly

As a sens fan, i personally would like carcillo on this team but i wouldnt pay more than a 4th for him. carcillo has proven that he has some offensive ability and i believe that with neil watching his every move, he shouldnt be a distraction.

i find agitators with offensive ability are quite key for teams. players like brad marchand, steve downie, milan lucic, steve ott, scott hartnell, matt cooke and pk subban play important roles for their respective teams and i dont see why carcillo couldnt either.

I wouldn't mind picking up Carle, but not for Calvert and certainly not for Calvert + any pick at all. The kid has demonstrated both excellent work ethic and a proven loyalty to this organization. Unless he looks like he's going to bust, he's likely staying here.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

To be fair, that was Calvert, Weber/Ruth/Goloubef, and a 2nd for Carle AND Versteeg.

What about something like this:

To Phil:
Methot
2nd round from CBJ

To Min:
Versteg
Filatov
8th pick

To CBJ
Carle
Burns

Phil gets a good young defender and cap room

Minn gets scoring, a high risk high reward prospect who I think will surprise a few people this season, and the #8 pick

CBJ Address their defense

Why sign Macdonald when you can have Nabokov for a similar if not lower price? We already know that the Flyers like or liked him and adding Nabokov for a draft pick or whatever, doesnt mean you still cant add a franchise goalie if one comes along, unless they are adament to keep Bobrosky in the NHL.

Be glad you're posting this in a thread that Wild fans are unlikely to see. Minnesota gets robbed blind in this deal.

Seriously, folks, you can't hide quantity-for-quality deals by throwing in a third team. It doesn't work that way.

Why on Earth would the Flyers do any of those deals?

To maintain a competitive team in the long term with talented guys on cheap ELCs and get a legit #1 goalie for once?
