Uh, what?

You mean the 34 year old arena that the Wings desperately want out of? That's the playbook?

I'm sorry, but I think Pegula is setting the bar for what every other team in the league should be doing.

What you think, and what the rest of the league knows, are two entirely different things.

What I KNOW, because the Wings are on record saying it, is that they want out of the Joe, and want a new building. This is not speculation, this is from the mouth of the Christopher Ilitch.

The Red Wings do a lot of things right. But saying that the Sabres renovations are modeling what the Wings do at the Joe is a damn absurdity.

It only got slightly larger. From 3300sqft (or 3500sqft) 3230sqft to 3511sqft.

I suspect the .pdf of those blueprints will be emailed around the NHLPA email accounts of much of the NHL by a combination of boasting Sabres, interested advisors and agents. Marketing... damn right.

These renovations need to be seen in the context of Pegula building a premiere franchise that is the envy of the league. It's a building block in that process, not the end in itself.

Pegula has a long ways to go before the Sabres match the Red Wings in terms of appeal to marquis NHL talent. Focusing on whose got the nicer toilets misses this point.

I think it's criminal that the Sabres have to fly charter. How vulgar.

Get'em a 757 already, Terry!

I get his point. I just don't agree with it.

Mike Ilitch built a winning team by spending money in a time when money equalled success. He treated his players well and invested in player development more than many teams in the NHL. That lead to success, and success is a major player draw as well. These are things Pegula is doing, and to say that those are copies of the Red Wings playbook would be accurate.

However, what about today's announcement mirrors anything that Ilitch has done? We've already established that Pegula wants to make sure his players are treated great. That isn't news. Pegula is building a world class facility for his players, which isn't something the Wings have done. So I dispute how anything that happened today is 'borrowing from the Red Wings playbook'.

I'm still a bit culture-shocked by the new ownership. Seems surreal.

This crew is not a joke.

Yeah in one of the pictures you can actually see the Sabres logo in the middle of the locker room. You can also see that they already cut out the logo from the old locker room.

From the pictures on Facebook, it looks like Pominville's using a scooter to get around. Poor guy, hope hes ready to go for next year. As for the reno itself, it looks amazing. Any word as to when it will be complete?

The biggest thing I take from that pictures is it looks like the players are having significant input on what they want in these facilities, which is a very, very good thing.

Considering you don't "keep" the cup ... Why would there be a cabinet? Also, let's not put the cart before the horse. Cup first, display second.

? I guess I forgot the . Of course they don't keep the cup and I don't care for horses. The statement was a tongue in cheek poke at how well I think are going with our new owner and all of his efforts.
