Honestly, I'm sick of hearing about this locker room stuff.

Good for the team and good on Pegula for doing it but I don't need to hear about it constantly.

It jumped the shark a few days after they announced it.

who invited Danny Downer? Its ok to get excited...shed that gloom of yesteryear

but not all of us are tapped in all-the time, nor live in WNY...the reality just hit this afternoon for me.

Cant wait to see this thing, i think its going to be unreal. Probably very modern looking. Kim Pegula saw Vancouver's on youtube and she wanted to top it.
She flew a Sabres official to Vancouver and two other state of the art arenas to get the best of all of them.

They are going full tilt. This should appeal to rooks and grizzled vets alike.

You got anything better to do Sabres wise for the Summer? Didn't think so.

Since it's missing the sarcasm emote, I'm assuming you don't know they already removed the logo from the carpet by cutting it out?

How come every time the Sabres management team does something good now, someone has to chime in and say "they still aren't close to what the Red Wings are"?

Why is it such an odd choice?

I read the title and clicked on and gave my opinion.

Using my architectural eye, it appears:
- The players leave the ice down a corridor that enters into the circular locker room that are the uniform/equipment stalls for each guy. The room's shape sure seems motivated by the team logo's shape, as well as acoustically smart if the coach wants to be heard by everyone.

- To the right of the hall leading into the locker room, it appears the coaches offices occur, with doors straight into the locker room.

- If they go through the locker room and turn right, the restrooms and showers are to their left and their wardrobe / personal lockers to the right.

- If they go through the locker room and turn left, it appears to be the laundry and trainer rooms.

- From the restroom/shower area, it looks like there's a player's lounge right next to the wardrobe locker room (judging by the furniture shown). Right off that lounge, there appears to be a small theatre/movie room (again, based on the seating configuration), probably used for their video sessions or maybe just for the players' personal use to watch other sporting events, etc.

- A separate corridor off the main hallway looks like it leads to some type of computer work station area, which is then next to several smaller offices.

- On the opposite end of the yellow-shaded areas, to the left of the main locker room, it looks like several rooms with examining tables or beds (again, judging by the furniture drawn). The smaller rooms could be any kind of medical support or exam rooms.

It is a smart move that the renovations include the visitor locker rooms IMO. Typically, from the arena tours I've done in the past of other rinks, the visitor's dressing room always looks like a bare-bones, high school locker room while the home team has the grande suite (Air Canada Center is definitely this way). But, if Black and Pegula want to impress all the players that DON'T play for the Sabres right now, what better way than to treat them with a similar degree of class and courtesy?

To think that I could have potentially worked for the architect, Cannon Design....what a dream job to be involved with

There won't be one - with the locker room designed in a circular geometry, a cylindrical pedestal in the middle of the room can be set up with the Cup on top of it.

What better way to be motivated in the seasons when they have to defend their first championship - the players would be all looking at it every single day as a reminder of what they earned and what it takes to do it again!

While the main locker room area will remain approximately the same size as it is now, the square room will be converted into a circular shape to allow players to see the entire room from their seats and thereby fostering better communication, according to Black
Quote:
There will be a theatre area where the entire team can gather to watch video, as well as an additional area just off the main locker room where coaches can convene during intermissions to view video of the period that just ended. Regier told the media that these were features that were very important to Ruff.
Quote:
The coachesí suite will be renovated as well, becoming much larger than the current offices used by the staff, while the playersí lounge will be about four times larger than the current lounge area.
Quote:
Another aspect of the Arena layout that will change as a result of the renovations to the Sabresí dressing room is the location of the visitorís locker room. The rooms are currently located next to one another, but the renovation will move the visitorís room to the other side of the hallway, and a new entrance to the Buffalo room will eliminate the need for Sabres players to walk past the visitorís room when they arrive at the Arena on game nights.

It's probably for the best that you didn't. I worked for the company that wormed their way into taking over Cannon's IT department about 8 years ago. Place seemed pretty dysfunctional to me, but maybe that was clouded by the fact that my company then was quite dysfunctional.

White mentioned in his audio segment that the players will sit in the round, facing one another. There is no opportunity to sink back into a deep-walled stall and not face anyone.

If they haven't changed in the last 15 years, then dysfunctional would still be the right term. I have a sibling who worked for them in the '90's and that was the description then.

Actually, he was only quoting Black, who in his Q&A session with the media, even demonstrated how the current orthagonal layout of the room allows players to sulk into their stall and "avoid the steely glare they might get from someone else". With the circular design, everyone's in full view of the guy standing in the center of the room - much like the 'stage-in-the-round' concept.

In his Q&A session (see Sabres.com for the video), Black answered a question about what impact the locker room changes may have in sending a message around the league by responding, "...whether it makes a difference in luring the premier free agent, I don't think so, but it will be a factor to take notice of in the decision process."

Obviously, it's human nature to hear what we want to hear, but the bold-faced reference sounded encouraging IMO in that, by everyone's account, Richards is considered the stand-out free agent this summer above everyone else. Black's reference to it seemed to suggest that either he's aware of the talk/speculation surrounding Richards at the moment and/or the Sabres have been talking internally about possible plans to go after him.
