You want hands that are almost legitimate stone, look no further than Higgins circa 2009.
Higgins was just snakebit during his brief time with the Rangers, that's all... He's a decent puckhandler. Jed Ortmeyer would be a better example of "stone hands".
Having hands of stone doesn't make him a bad player. It just limits what he can do.
I wish we could surgically transfer Wolski's hands to Callahan. He'd be a right-handed (or would he become left handed) version of Parise.
I'm glad i'm not the only one who draws a parallel between him and Parise (i know their numbers are far apart, i just meant work ethic and favorite of the fanbase)
In the beginning of the season I'd have trouble arguing with the notion that Cally isn't the best puckhandler/shooter, but ever since he came back from that hand injury, his hands looked outstanding. We've seen flashes of brilliance, but I wonder if some sort of hand rehabilitation helped his skill game become more consistent. If he plays even 70 games next season the way he played in the rear stretch, i can see him breaking 60 points. Close to 80 games, and, well I wouldn't be surprised to see him as our point leader.
I'm in the minority that thinks Dubi should be captain. He just has that captain swag
I wouldn't want to see Duby as Captain for one reason only. Too much pressure on him. When Callahan and Gaborik were injured, Duby felt a lot of pressure to perform and tried to do too much and failed at it.
I love Duby, don't get me wrong, but i think if he got the Captain role, it would **** up his mindset as he would feel too much pressure and try to do too much. he wouldn't perform the same is all. I could be wrong, but that's just my 2 cents from what I know about Duby

Jaime Lannister has better hands than Brian Boyle.
Callahan is arbitration eligible this summer and is eligible for group III next summer. Look around the NHL at comparables. Those group III years are worth $4M plus.
Tuomo Ruutu signed a 3 year deal worth $11.4M
$3M
$4M
$4.4M
First season was an arbitration year. Last two including next season are group III years.
Even Okposo has a group III year worth $4.5M
Just wanted to say, I'm not a Rangers fan but I've glanced over this board a few times (particularly re: potential contract info) and have found your posts especially informative. It's a shame some of the other Rangers fans don't pay anywhere near enough attention to your educated posts.
As for Callahan, perhaps something along the lines of:
2011-2012/Remaining Group II Yr (Age 26): $3M
'12-'13/Group III (27): $4M
'13-'14/Group III (28): $4.25M
'14-'15/Group III (29): $4.25M
Which ends up being 4 years, $15.5M, $3.875M cap hit, which is sounds right for a player of Callahan's caliber. And Callahan is potentially able to hit the FA market at the age of 30.
Perhaps the Rangers are looking for an additional year to that term, in which case the cap hit rises as another year of Group III (unrestricted) free agency is bought.

Callahan must sporadically tweak his wrists throughout the year or something, because he goes from being one of the most takeaway-prone players on the ice, to completely burning other teams' defensemen without a problem.

Higgins probably hit about 20 posts and crossbars in his short stint here.
Callahan is one of seven restricted free agents from this season's Rangers, one of the reasons - as well as their desire to upgrade a team that finished eighth in the Eastern Conference - that the $3.3 million savings on Drury's buyout looms so large. Thursday, agent Steve Bartlett told The News that Callahan's contract talks are "just beginning," and Callahan said after the season that he did not expect negotiations to be difficult.
Well if he didn't then he'd be almost an elite player...
Callahan continues to surprise me. He'll never be a finesse scoring type but he's getting more mileage out of his style of play than I thought he would. At this point I'm just worried his body can't take it

I agree with this. The shot blocking is nice, but he needs to be more careful. With the way he plays he doesn't need the extra bumps and bruises, let alone breaks.
