Bad Contracts Master List

I had an idea to make a master list of the contracts that each team would like to get rid of this offseason. Us fans are painfully aware of our own team's bad contracts, but I can't say I'm aware of all the other unfortunately overpaid players out there. If we could get fans of all the teams to reach something resembling a consensus on which players they would like to dump, we can have a master list of such players. This might prove useful when creating trade proposals, or inspire some our junk for your junk proposals.

What qualifies as a bad contract? It's not simply all overpaid players in this case. They are players that are now worth much less than they were when they originally signed, and that you would trade away for significantly less than you would have hoped to when they had first signed or been traded for. For example, Ales Kotalik was originally traded to Calgary for a package including Jokinen and Prust going the other way. At this point the Flames would easily trade him for a 7th round pick (not all cases will be this extreme).

I will edit this post as the suggestions roll in. If you see a name on here that you disagree with, make a post about it.

Anaheim Ducks
Jason Blake (1 year at $4 million; 32 points)
Andy Sutton (1 year at $2 million; 4 points) [35+]

Buffalo Sabres
Jochen Hecht (1 year at $3.5 million; 29 points)
Shaone Morrisonn (1 year at $2 million ; 5 points)

Cristobal Huet (1 year at $5.6 million; Europe)

Columbus Blue Jackets
Mike Commodore (2 years at $3.8 million; 6 points)
Kristian Huselius (1 year at $4.8 million; 23 points)

Edmonton Oilers
Shawn Horcoff (4 years at $5.5 million; 27 points)
Sheldon Souray (1 year at $5.4 million; AHL)

Florida Panthers
Rostislav Olesz (3 years at $3.1 million; 17 points)

Montreal Canadiens
Scott Gomez (3 years at $7.3 million; 38 points)

Nashville Predators
JP Dumont (1 year at $4 million; 19 points)

New Jersey Devils
Brain Rolston (1 year at $5 million; 34 points) [35+]

Brian Rolston: 1 year, 5.062 mil. I think they'll just ride out the contract at this point, though.

Anaheim Ducks

Jason Blake - $4.0 cap hit ($3 salary) with 1 year left.

Blake actually fits in really well with Koivu and Selanne, but he's not worth the cap hit. He's in his last year though so it's not too bad.

Detroit:

Jiri Hudler, 1 year, $2.8m -- 10g, 37p

Fortunately, our only one, and not too bad.

Komisarek and Finger as mentioned above. Also I feel Phaneuf is 1-1.5 mil overpaid at 6.5 but hopefully he proves me wrong.

Surely overpaid, but the Leafs won't trade him.

I don't think it's too bad either, in fact I don't think I'll add it to the list unless some other Wings fans protest.

In comparison, Jason Blake makes $1.2 million more and scored 5 less points.

KF, I typoed on Drury's point total. It's 5, not 1. Just as pathetic, but correct. I was thinking of his 1 goal.

Horcoff (5.5)
Souray (5.4)
Foster (1.8)
Jacques at league minimum would be an overpayment so if you want to include him go ahead.

Dallas Stars - Sean Avery - 4 Million a season through 2011-2012
New York Islanders - Alexei Yashin - New York's highest paid player last season, being paid through 2013-2014
Nashville Predators - J.P. Dumont - 4 Million through 2011-2012.

For the Jackets...
Mike Commodore - $3.75m, two years. If we trade him, it's either to someone who's willing to give him one last try, or it's to "trade" the buyout cap hit. Personally, I'd want to include him along with another halfway decent asset or two as part of a trade for Brian Campbell.
Kristian Huselius - $4.75m, one year. Had a rough season, but is still a serviceable scorer; he's just rather heavily overpaid. Ideas around a Huselius-Kuba swap have been percolating around between Jackets and Senators fans for some time now.

Debated whether or not to include Sammy Pahlsson. He's definitely got a somewhat heavy contract, but he's just as good as he was when we signed him. It's just that his talents are kind of going to waste here.

Mike Commodore comes to mind (3.8, 6 points in NHL, 2 in AHL) correct me if I'm wrong with that info.

Also for the Sens players, I know some people are being sarcastic when they say they'd trade a player for a bag of pucks, or a sandwich, but in Kuba's case, it's actually true. As for Gonchar, he had a terrible year, but I would also like to see if he could bounce back, and the young guys like Rundblad/ Cowen could certainly learn a few tricks from him.

Edit- Beaten by Viqsi!

I'd be all for giving Juice another chance in Calgary, but we just don't have the room.
