That Yashin high number was only for last year and that's over. His cap hit was 4 something but is half that now. Why are you listing a bought out player and players on other teams anyway? The whole point of this thread is about trades.

I'm shocked no one has mentioned DP's contract. Wow! I guess it goes without saying. Lol

I might get some flack for this (seeing as compared to a lot of the aforementioned contracts, these aren't too bad but...)

Jason Pominville 5.3 for 3 more years

Jochen Hecht 3.5 for 1 year

Paul Gaustad 2.5 for 1 year.

This thread is actually a really good idea, one of the better ones on this board!

I'll put Hecht up there, but Pominville is going to be fine and Gaustad is producing just as well as he was when he was signed.

Also I'm going to throw Ballard up there on behalf of Canucks fans. When you have the best team in hockey and are in the midst of a Stanley Cup run and Vancouver fans still can be bothered to make Ballard trade proposals on here, it must qualify as a bad contract.

He had the highest caphit(4.775M) due to the way his contract was structured last season but pay wise he gets 2.2M for the next 4 seasons(and 2.2M caphit from here on out)

Sadly the Islanders used both Yashin and Witt's buyouts(~3M in actual dollars) to get over the cap minimum(combined they totalled ~6M caphit wise)

I must say, I don't see how Kurtis Foster is overpayed at 1.8 million...

Ballard doesn't deserve to be on that list. Hip surgery, concussions and probably some stupid tiff with one, or more, of our coaching staff, as well as a deep pool to draw from have bumped him back. 7 points at 4.2 million isn't a fair value of what he brings when he does make it in to the line up. He's over paid, but he's not anywhere near as bad as some of the others you have there. Lu's is worse, not because he's not worth the cap hit, but I think there's like 10 years left on it after this year.

That, and I doubt he's being shopped this summer anyway.

Agreed. Hate to sound like a whiny Canuck fan, but he still has pretty good trade value and would get offered that much or slightly more if he were UFA this offseason. Him, Foster, Kuba and Avery are the only players from that list that are tradeable IMO.

I'd say Dany Heatley, but aside from Ballard (who I don't think should be on there), I am not sure there is a single guy I'd trade him for.

David Clarkson. $2.6 for two more seasons. Only 18 points last season. It's not the worst but it could continue to be bad for NJ if he doesn't pick up his play.

Most were expecting 15-20 goals and 40 pts.

Me either and it was funny when he signed that contract and McGuire giving it harsh reviews. Then they interviewed Foster and he called Pierre out in a joking manner.

Good idea...

I was going to say Giggy for TO but he's UFA so it doesn't count.

Arguably you could say the kovy contract is a bad one for NJ as well..

Rolston, like Gonchar is a 35+ contract, so that needs to be mentioned.

For Florida, Olesz should definitely be on this list. For Anaheim, I think you can add Andy Sutton, at over $2 million for a mostly healthy scratch in the playoffs.

I think guys like Dany Heatley and Jaroslav Spacek are pretty close to being on this list, too.

Kristian Huselius - $4.75m, one year. Had a rough season, but is still a serviceable scorer; he's just rather heavily overpaid. Ideas around a Huselius-Kuba swap have been percolating around between Jackets and Senators fans for some time now.

Debated whether or not to include Sammy Pahlsson. He's definitely got a somewhat heavy contract, but he's just as good as he was when we signed him. It's just that his talents are kind of going to waste here.
Would you do a Commodore for Komisarek swap? Maybe with a late round pick going from the Leafs to the Blue Jackets? Basically I'm assuming the Jackets would rather be paying a little more for an NHLer than a little less for an AHLer. The Leafs would then get a cheaper buyout.

Now the Campbell idea would be a better one from Columbus' point of view but if that isn't an option.

I would take huselius off the list he is a great goal scorer. pretty much 20 goals or more in every season but 1 i think. plus this year he had 14 goals in 39 games thats a pace of 29 goals if he plays the whole season.

Very impressive that Stastny is not on that list. And please keep him off it.

He makes 6.6, which is indeed an overpayment, but, without him making that much, the Avs would not have made the cap floor last year.

To really make the list helpful, the salaries would need to be included. Around half the league isn't operated to work against the cap, but against some sort of internal budget, and for all those clubs the cap number becomes somewhat irrelevant (depending on the difference between budget and salary cap) and the actual salary becomes the key number.

Players in the last years of an expensive front-loaded contract are more likely options for budget teams than players on expensive back-loaded contracts, no matter how much cap space they have available.

Well, he did pass waivers in February, so NHL all GMs with the needed space at that point tended to disagree.
