Ice Skate question

Have been skating in the same pair for Tacks for about 10 years now, the other night took a shot to the foot and broke the runner on my skate. I found a good deal on some Vapor skates so I am thinking about making the switch (I've never had a Bauer skate whether it's inline or ice). I have read that Bauer recommends going down 1.5 sizes from your shoe size, is that true?

Also, would you recommend going with a pair of Synergy's or Vector's over the Vapors? Below is a couple pair of skates that I'm looking at.

all of the above skates fit differently, I know you're in St.Louis but best try on skates and buy them from a local store and not online.

Especially since he is coming out of skates that are 10 years old. Skates have changed pretty drastically so there isn't even a guarantee he would still fit in new CCM's. My advice to the OP-try on every brand, there should be one that fits much better than the rest. And take your sweet time making a decision, no reason to be skating in skates that don't fit your feet with all the information us hockey players have now.

Did you break the steel (runner) or the plastic (holder)? If the boot is still usable you could always replace the runner and/or holder, although this may not be worth the cost versus getting new skates.

If you want to get new skates anyway, go try on every skate in your price range at your local shop(s). Go with the pair that fits the best. If there's a few that fit well and you still can't decide then come back and ask for opinions.

I broke the plastic holder. Took a slapshot to the foot and snapped it completely. I've gotten pretty good use out of the skates and think it's time to move on. I've already thought about having the boot taken off and put on a new runner but the rivots are so rusted I don't think it's do-able.

From this forum and living in Pittsburgh I have learned about a new skate company called MLX. Tim Thomas just started wearing them. maybe check them out instead of going with the big brands. However, the Bauer Vapors are very nice skates and I think they will work out fine for you if you go with them.
