3rd Line Center to STL
Requirements: Good at faceoffs, solid in the defensive zone, at least somewhat physical and can put up 30-40 pts.
Preferable: Veteran with leadership, good size.
Who could be had via trade or FA?

Brian Boyle from the Rangers. Had 21 goals 15 assists for 36 points this season after only scoring 4 goals the previous season.
6'7'' 250 pounds and was decent in the faceoff circle this year
What would Blues offer for him? He's an RFA and made 525k on his last contract.

Matt Stajan fits the bill.
Great at Faceoffs, Good in his own end and can defiantly put up 40 or even 50 points.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Stajan
The only problem is he isnt paid like a 3rd line center. More like a 2nd line Center.
If you can take on his cap hit, you can have him for a 3rd. Calgary does this to clear up cap space and moves a player who really has struggled here.

Marcel Goc is a perfect 3rd line center, can even be a 2nd line guy if need be.

Would love Boyle, not sure what I would offer though, what are NYR's needs?
And to above poster, I want nothing to do with Stajan

Wow,
defiantly put up 40 to 50 points?
I just wonder what he could do if he went at it fully determined.

Call me crazy but I think Sobotka or Mcrea will make good 3rd line centers no need to trade for one.

Bozak for Tarasenko?
But seriously, Bozak for a conditional 3rd (depending on how well Bozak does, it can turn into a 2nd at most, 4th at the worst) or Toronto can do something along the lines of Bozak + 4th/5th for Beukeboom?
I really don't see Bozak fitting in our long term plans if we plan to keep Grabovski and try for that 1st line centre.
Our system is filled with centres like Colborne, Kadri, McKegg, even Olden who can do as much or even better then Bozak does.
Don't look at +/- btw, it's not a telling start seeing as he was playing on one of the league's worst teams with defensively unaware wingers, he's great at faceoffs and is solid defensively.

Not sure if sarcastic but yes. His previous two NHL seasons he topped the 50 points mark. Did he have an awful season this year? Absolutely.
Do I think he will bounce back next year? Defiantly. I would say he should get at least 40. 50 is also possible for him.

Please, learn how to spell and use the word "
definitely " in it's proper context.

Currently, we need a top 6 LW. Maybe something cenetered around Boyle and a prospect + for Chris Stewart?
Brian Boyle, Mats Zuccarello, 1st round pick for Chris Stewart, Brock Beukeboome

He could also be using the word "defiantly" as in "Matt Stajan will defiantly kill the dragon"

I do think Stajan would do well on the Blues and would probably end up being capable a 2nd line centre. If he got the minutes on that team, theres no reason to think he wouldn't put up 50 pts again. And he could be had for next to nothing. Stajan and the Flames have been like Oil and Water, he has not been a good fit which is unfortunate because he is actually a pretty decent player. Obviously the huge draw back to teams about Stajan is his cap hit. If a GM could get over that, or fit him in, after this season his real salary will 2.5 million for the remaining 2 years of his term. Which is pretty good if he producing 40-50 points.

Stewart isnt going anywhere, Blues are also a little thin on LW so im not sure we would be good trading partners.

Stajan would have zero chance of being our 2nd line center. Backes and Berglund say hello. The Blues are looking more for a defensive faceoff winning center to replace McClement.

Isn't that the purpose of the thread? I must have misread the title.

Your really think someone would give a top young power forward for a 3rd line center? In general 3rd line centers can be had for picks.

We dont
need a 3rd line center but some people want one. In my view Oshie is our 3rd line center.
Perron - Berglund - Stewart
McDonald - Backes - D'Agostini
Steen - Oshie - FA
