Doug Weight Retires

http://video.islanders.nhl.com/video...=756&id=114994

Found this video and enjoyed it. I know there are plenty of Blues fans who weren't big fans of his but I always thought he was a class act and should have been Captain after Chopper retired.

Wish he had retired a Blue and would have liked for him to stay in the family but hopefully he'll make his way back this way someday.

He was a very good player for us. I was shocked to see him traded to Anaheim; it was a good move in hindsight but he seemed pretty PO'd about it.

Best of luck to him.

And I'm so glad that he won a Cup. So few grizzled veterans get to go to a contending team and actually win.

Ray Bourque and Dave Andreychuk come to mind.

Way to go Dougie! Great career.

He also helped to stabilize a young Islanders team. I have never liked the Islanders ever, but next season they should knocking on the playoff door.

I fail to see how this has anything to do with the St.Louis Blues.

He was a Blue for a rather long time and a total class act along the way. I'm sorry if this is uninteresting to you. Luckily though, we all have the option to not click on a topic if we don't want to read about it.

See the thread title on the front page of the Blues board?
See the capital "OT" next to it?

That means "off topic".

We judiciously allow a few non-Blues topics that are of interest to a large number of posters here. Most of these stem from former Blues players that people still care about. Its not a misleading thread title, so just don't read it if you don't care.

The link I provided is on the official Blues website. How more "Blues oriented" does it need to be for you?

you are welcome to ignore the thread all you'd like. My reason for posting it is because I would hope one day we can smuggle Doug Weight back to St. Louis in a coaching position.

I apologize for my snarkiness.

I personally feel Doug Weight was a major disappointment for the Blues partially because (and correct me if I'm wrong), we let Turgeon walk for him after an 80 pt season. I guess I'm still bitter about that.

If I'm not mistaken, Weight already has a coaching spot on the Island... And has a house in the area. I think if Weight were to go elsewhere it wont be for quite a while

And Doug Weight proceeded to put up more points than Turgeon for the remainder of Turgeon's career.

Plus, imo Weight is/was and always will be a better team leader than Turgeon ever was. The only issue that I ever took with Weight is his lack of output but then again Laurie didn't spread the money around to enough supporting players to give Tkachuk, Weight, Pronger and MacInnis a fighting chance.

This is true but I can't help but think St.Louis not resigning him was very disheartening for him. I even remembering hearing rumors at the time that he was worried about it. And on Dallas he was converted to winger when he was a natural center. I also believe he played on the 3rd line. All of these factors I believe played into the sharp drop in points after he left St.Louis. He was never the same.
