We should do a HF-Rangers board mock draft. Any one want to do that?

Mods, would we have to do it in the mock draft forum, or could we do it here because it is this forum specific?

Watching the Memorial Cup, Beaulieus D does not impress me at all. Phillips has good hands and shot but his skating isn't good. Huberdeau is the read deal, kids gonna be good. Jurco wont be much at the Nhl level.

They're taken.

We've essentially filled up; unless you want to take Philly? They have 1 pick in the third round, so for now, I'm covering for them. They're really the only team left.

One of the Blueshirt Bulletin writers who also writes a prospect blog spoke to Gordie Clark.

GC: It is not as hard, we donít have a 3rd or 6th and 7th but listen youíre real bread and butter is your first two picks. We have 2 picks in the second and we are hoping to take advantage of them.

You can use one of those picks along with your first to move up in the draft to get a guy you really have an eye on. We did that in the Staal year so there is a lot of options you can do when you have 2 picks like that.

The options are endless as to what we can do from this position.

We can always keep them too as we got Stepan in the 2ndround, there is still some NHL players hanging around in the second. So letís look at the 2nd pick (from the Sanguinetti trade) as our 3rd pick.

Trading up is a strong possibility.

Teams can sign college free agents and overage juniors to make up for the lack of 6th and 7th round picks.

The 2nd second round pick could be used to secure the negotiating rights to Richards.

Pretty much got what I was after

15- C - Mark Scheifele - Barrie Colts OHL
43- D - Adam Clendening - BU NCAA
57- C - Joachim Nermark - Linkoping Sweden

The 2nd round is going to be fun to watch, any chance we get 2nd round coverage on TV or internet feed?

Thanks.

Good job to you too, did you trade up both times? If trades were allowed I would've tried to move up for Z or McNeil. Scheifele is a good consolation though.

Yep. #15 and #45 for #10 in my own draft, and #15, #45, and Vtank for #9 on this board's mock.

Phenomenal haul. I'd be satiated if the Rangers came away with those three players after the first two rounds.

I can realistically see those two picks, but Nermark falling that far would be pretty damn good for us.

I think there's a good chance of moving one of those 2nd's, either to move up from #15 or in a trade for an established player, so we'll see what happens.

Just out of pure curiosity, is Zibanejad head and shoulders better than McNeil and Scheifele?

From what I've read here and elsewhere, it sounds like they have similar upsides (1st/2nd line Center), and all play a similar game in that they are solid, physical, two-way players that are solid in both ends of the ice.

So would it really be worth it to throw out a 2nd, in a draft where we are already low in draft picks, to move 5-6 spots to take Zibinejad when a similar player could be available at 15 in McNeil or Scheifele?

Just curious. Thanks for any info.

Ziban was a large 17 yr old playing against men this season. He brings a power forward game to the table and projects to be playing in the NHL sooner than McNeil or Scheif. Ziban looks like he can be a difference maker on both sides of the puck, first line kind of talent.

Personally, I don't think he's "head and shoulders" above either player, but he's experienced playing against men in the SEL, and that will make the transition to the NHL easier, and likely quicker. He also plays a complete defensive game and excels in the dot, so the question becomes whether or not he has the offensive upside. I believe he does, so I have him ranked higher than the other two.

I think Scheifele and Ziban both have considerable upside, but I think if both players fail to reach that potential, Ziban is still capable of being a 3rd line center at this level, while Scheifele's main contribution will likely always be his offense.

Totally agree on all you said here.

I can see him becoming a first liner or he can be utilized like Jordan Staal as the 3rd line Center. That why I think Colorado goes for him so they Have Stastny-Duchesne-Ziban down the middle.

I guess the acquisition of Erixon to our awesome young d-corps eliminates the slightest possibility that we will pick a d-man with our first round pick. I'm now less excited for the draft.
We need to make our first round selection count because there's not a good chance we can rectify it unless Sather has some more trades in the works. Still hoping for Scheifele, McNeill, Armia, or Zibanejad.

And by the way, what's up with this recent obsession with acquiring Swedes? Trying to placate Lundqvist?

You still have to be excited for the 1st pick, always an entertaining pick at least

Swedes are awesome players, their programs are churning out good players at all positions. The Finns are right behind them, we better start drafting some of them in the next few years too !
