Det - Dal

With Rafalski's, and potentially Lidstrom's cap space available...

To DAL:
3rd in '11 or '12
Conditional 2nd

To DET:
Richards(rights)

I think DET is one of the few places Richards takes a salary hit to play in(like most). But they will need some time to talk him into it. Otherwise some team is going to drop $8M per year in front of him on July 1.
Maybe take the same type of deal as Zetterberg.

If DET signs him, Richards will give the Wings forward corps a crazy amount of flexibility. Three #1, two-way centers who can all play the wing. Getting a guy like Richards for a 2nd and a 3rd is a pretty good deal.

As for DAL; basically they get something for nothing.

i dont think this makes much sense for the wings at all, they are full at center, there forwards are fine. i believe that they're just going to be searching for another dman, and goaltender.

Richards, Datsyuk and Zetts can all play the wing effectively.

I just think I would give up a late 3rd to have 1 month to talk Richards and his agent into signing with DET.

i understand what you're saying. any of them can play center/wing, which is nice, but i dont see detroit extremely interested in richards, they have some small problem areas they'd probly like to address b4 offering 7+million/season for richards.. and i believe if they're interested they will offer him a deal on july 1st, they just wont offer him the money most of the other teams would

Dont get me wrong, the wings would have an unreal "looking" powerplay.

Eventhough the Wings are fine at the centre position but Babs like to have Hank and Pavs on the same line. We the Wings can afford Richards I say do it.

I could see the wings signing Richards and another D-man...then Lids takes a small paycut and they can still pick up a serviceable d-man

Richards in a Wings jersey would be a scary sight

No offense to Rafalski but that's the only place he was useful last season. Richards could replace him there while we get a shutdown guy on the back end.

Just once, I'd like for our best player to not wind up on the Red Wings.

Assuming there's any choice amongst teams offering a pick for his rights the preference would probably be to send him somewhere out East.

As much as I think this would be awesome..I'd rather make sure the small gaps in our line up are fixed. Personally I don't see us obtaining a top notch forward unless Lidstrom takes a pay cut knowing this is his last season and wants a cup before retirement.

It would look scary on the PP with Richards though...

Detroit could sign him to a 1 year deal just like they did with Hossa. Give him a chance to win another cup before he gets another big payday somewhere else.

we're not gonna get bieksa or ehrhoff

we're not gonna get markov

our best bets this summer via ufa in order are
-kaberle
-pitkanen
-wisnewski

i dont feel comfortable paying either of thsoe three anything more then 4.5 million a season

so why not go sign brad richards and grab two lesser dmen..

I dont want either of them. People think Rafalski was poor defensively but he looks like Lidstrom compared to those 2.

i dont want any of them either though pitkanen i think could be allright.

i just dont see us getting those 3 top ufas as we will either
- be out bid
- they will resign with their current teams like most ufa's do

i dont want to get involved in a mike komisarek 2.0 where the best "available" ufa dmen signs a terrible overpriced deal because some team was desperate to make a statement.

spend the money yes, but, only on quality

I'd rather Detroit just sign someone like Hannan to a 1 year deal then wait until the next UFA market which is a hell of a lot stronger on defense. Then Lidstrom will be retired and the CBA will expire so Detroit will be in a VERY good position to rebuild their defense.

losing two of their top defenders= signing a top 2 defender and giving Kindl a chance imo.
