Sens - Wild

Scenario:

Sens like a player or 2 expected to go in the 10-15 range, more than who is left on the board at 6.

Minnesota wants to make a splash at their own draft, at a reasonable cost.

Proposal:

To Minnie:

6th Overall
Filip Kuba
Ottawa's 3rd Round Pick

To Ottawa

10th Overall
Greg Zanon
Minnesota's 2nd Round Pick

What do you think? Close, crazy?

Somewhere between close and crazy from a value standpoint. Crazy from team needs standpoint.

Sens don't need another D-man, haven't had a chance to have a pick this good in a LONG time, they should take advantage of this especially in a rebuild.

Don't imagine the Wild would be crazy about trading Zanon either.

IMO Ottawa needs a defensive defensemen to play with Gonchar. Phillips didn't really work out, and I'm not sure Lee is the guy to do it either.

Zanon Gonchar
Cowen Karlsson
Phillips Rundblad

I would like to at least give Lee a chance before throwing him under the bus. This leaves us with both Carkner and Lee as scratches. Zanon is a good solid defenseman, but he isn't going to help Ottawa enough to justify dropping the sixth pick imo.

Never ever put Gonchar in the Sens building plans. You don't try to get help for someone (Gonchar) when that player will be retired in 2 years and maybe gone from the Sens lineup at the next trade deadline.

try to think five years in advance instead of 2 months.

As a Wild fan I have a few things to say:
-We don't have a 2nd rounder(Boston has it)
-If we did have the 2nd, I personally would definitely go for this deal.
-Nobody really wants to trade Zanon, but he's one of our few assets that could actually draw interest. There's been a lot of talk on the Wild board about trying to package him in a deal for a forward. Instead of Kuba is there a forward that could be available?

Instead of Zanon, is there a forward we can trade Kuba for?

Heh, losing Zanon for Kuba would be a major downgrade especially on PK's.

Here's a better idea:

-Draft whoever falls Hubedeau/Couterier/Landeskog/Strome @ 6.
-Use the NSH first and a combination of our other picks to move up to 13-15 range and take this mysterious player.

Ottawa has been pretty high on Strome (according to rumours), he won't be gone at 6. They won't be moving that pick unless it is to move up.

I know precious little about the Wild's situation, but from what you say, it sounds like you have the same issues as the Sens, i.e. a sore lack of top 6 forwards. We've got an abundance of bottom 6ers, however.

Pretty much.

Also, I never want to see Kuba in a Minnesota sweater again.
