White didn't sit out a year with a potentially career ending injury. I'm not saying Salvador can't bounce back as good as ever, but I think it's more likely he doesn't.
His eye injury and pirate jokes say hello. 2 months out of the lineup and a shaky return had popular opinion bouncing him out of the league. The following year he returned to form. Very similar situation to this one imo.
Wait and see - especially with a warrior type like Sal.
Could see this being about showing other possible teams that he's cleared and will be working out all summer to get back into playing shape after missing an entire year. I think Lou could try to move Sal and his salary cap hit to a team for a conditional pick based upon the number of games he plays.
For example, possible teams like Detroit or Buffalo could use a veteran Dman on a 1 year contract. If he plays at least 40 games, we get a 2nd rounder from Detroit, if not, we get a 3rd rounder.
Sal is a bit of a mystery right now. How healthy will he be in October? No one really knows, so it's a moot point. I'm happy he's getting better through, the guy is a warrior and he had a pretty scary concussion.
The cap issues will work themselves out eventually, it's no use getting bent out of shape over it.
