Com'on guys. A lot of you are putting Yemelin, right of the bat, with Markov. I don't remember a player, coming from another league, playing at an elite level with a top-10 d-man. (And I know, someone will prove me wrong..) Yemelin has lo learn of to play at a new level: Gill can be, along with Markov, a good mentor to him to reach that level.

Gill's value in the locker room is huge. Remember how a lot of us said that Markov made Streit and Souray 4-5M d-man? Well Gill helped Gorges and Subban to step up crunch time, and becoming great defensmen. And if Markov and Gill can have a good impact to the young d-core of the Habs (Yemelin, Subban, Weber, Diaz) well we're gonna say, 2 years from now, that this money has been spent quite well.

It's not bad, Gorges is a legitimate top 4 guy and can make a solid first pair with Markov. But Gill shouldn't be in the top 4 unless he's covering for an injury and this completely squanders the cap space window to put together an elite defense corp.

have a feeling Weber is going to be trade bait, theres to many young d guys there. I think they'd want some more veteran presence.

Gill was in our top 4 this year and Markov and Gorges didn't even play. I don't see how this is worst.

Your first squad is decimated by injuries....remove Markov or subban from the the second squad and you would have the worst piece of garbage

I think Markov, Gill and Gorges are enough for veteran presence on the backend.

Exactly. Price in net, Markov, Subban, Gorges, Gill on D is a playoff team.

Well if you think that Gill at 2.25M$ is a HUGE overpayment

Take a look at spacek/gomez contract....it will ease the pain

You have no clue what you're talking about. The cap calculator is used to see how players and their contracts fit under the cap. Read about it next time before posting.

Forget how much Wiz or Markov wants, or if Wiz even wants to be back.
Markov @ 5.5 for 3 yrs.
He wants "long term" and would be kidding himself if he thinks he deserves a raise for being injured and the team needing to replace him via trades, despite being a top D-man a couple of years ago.

Wiz @ 4.7 for 4 yrs. (Maybe front-loaded if he wants)
Wiz already said he wants to be back. He wants to be on a contending team with real fans. He's said that many times to Habs media and when he was in Chicago/Anaheim. It's a fair contract and it might be worth GOLD if Markov or Subban are injured for any amount of time.

Gill was great, but when you look at what he brings and what he takes away...
Plus:
Leadership/Mentor
Penalty Killing
Minus:
Roster Spot (Yes)
2.25mil

Most likely D:
Markov - Yemelin
Gill - Subban
Gorges - Spacek
Weber

There's no room for Wiz. Spacek AND Weber together won't be scratched. And Weber will likely ask for a 1-way contract (which he deserves).

The summer is just starting, but unless Spacek is ridden of, the D is not improving one bit (something we REALLY need).

Expecting it to be your 2nd pairing for all of next season is a mistake.
I agree.
I am so happy they brought Gill back, he is an absolute moose on the PK.

But they need to dump Spacek to re-build. Even if it means sending him down to the minors.

Not sure how some people think 2.25 M is too much..

I am more than fine with that for Gill.

Intangibles man, Intangibles.

yemelin playing hes first NHL minutes in the first line ? its a joke right ? Markov - Gorges maybe have way through the season if everything goes good but at the start dont expect Martin to put a rookie defensemen against the best lines

You can't burry his contract in minors. Signed after he was 35, so minors or buying him out does nothing for the cap.

I'll be happy only if Gill is signed for $1M/year, but I doubt it.
So it's bad news.

Damn, thanks for letting me know that.
Then it is imperative we dump him somewhere. I don't want to see Weber in the pressbox for Game 1.

He doesn't speak a word of English. Markov will need to be his pairing partner on ice. If that means Markov plays less minutes (probably better for someone coming off long injuries) then that will be the case. My points still stand.

Great news. He's a huge asset to team chemistry. Now Markov, Gorges and probably 1 new vet.
