As much as I love V-Tank, I pull the trigger. Erixon is going to be a really good player. Calgary would definately take it because it is obvious that they are going to end up getting less for him by just letting him go

Can't stress enough how badly I'd want him here. I do however think he'd cost more than anyone in this thread has suggested. Also keep in mind that it is Calgary who chooses his destination, not Erixon. Calgary will get a lot of offers if Erixon truly is available.

They could definitely squeeze a first rounder out of a team. Rundblad did.

If anyone is hell bent on acquiring all former Ranger related players, the Pens announced they won't be signing Andy Bathgate's grandson:

The Penguins are parting ways with two prospects, center Andy Bathgate and defenseman Viktor Ekbom.

I actually think that's an interesting proposal. A great deal depends on what Tortorella (and Schenfeld) thinks about Del Zotto.

I am a Michael Del Zotto fan, but I can't help but be intrigued at the scouting reports & discussion in this thread. I guess the important questions are: How confident are the Rangers' brass that MDZ will develop into the player they want him to be? & Can the Rangers find an suitable role for MDZ in the bottom pairing for the immediate future based on the assumption that our top 4 defensemen have solidified their spots/roles in our line-up? Erixon is a year younger than MDZ. Might be better suited for a bottom pairing role given the type of game he plays...

HF's Scouting Report:

Quote:
A very smart defenseman that plays a solid two-way game. Erixon is not very spectacular, but plays an effective and rather simple game. He does not throw his body around, but can be aggressive and has active stickwork. Hockey sense is very good and so is his offensive positioning. Not a pure offensive force, but has enough skills to put up points and quarterback the powerplay if needed. Furthermore, he has good size and mobility and handles the puck well.
Player in MDZ's mold is not going to be very effective at even strength in a 3rd pairing role when it comes to contributing offense. This off-season I've been thinking about whether or not they could feasibly use him for the typical, limited 3rd pairing minutes at even strength, but keep him out there for the entire duration of PP's (assuming he brings his game around).

I'm not too hot to trade Kundratek but if thats what it takes then I suppose we could.

If you can trade any d-man EXCEPT MDZ and get this guy, i'd do it in a heartbeat.

Third pairing of the future.

Do you want to know who Erixon reminds me of? Marc Staal and Ryan McDonagh. The kid is the REAL DEAL.

I really like the idea of Erixon, especially if the Flames could potentially lose him. Hat tip to Rangerboy here for digging this up. However, trading MDZ for a player that has limited value in the trade market being that he is still unsigned? Vtank and the 2nd is an interesting proposal, but I think Kundratek and the 2nd would be a better move for the Rangers. And...I think the value is there for Cgy as well. My point is no sense in giving up too much when you may not have to.

I read on Calgarypuck.com that the sticking point is Erixon does not want to play in Abbotsford,British Columbia which is where Calgary has their AHL team. He wants to stay in Sweden for another season which will see a 1 year come off his ELC. Calgary has to sign him by tomorrow at 5pm. Erixon wants Calgary to loan him back to his team in Sweden rather than play in BC. Ottawa signed Jakob Silfverberg and he will be loaned to his team in Sweden next season.

the issue for Calgary is cap space, as such Erixon offers an affordable defenseman so I doubt the Flames want to deal him.

If NY covets him they have to work something out that helps calgary's cap numbers

umm welcome back Kotalik ?

Would you guys mind if Calgary refused to loan him back, then the Rangers picked him up for whatever the trading price may be, and they agreed to take one year off the ELC to loan him back to Sweden? how much can it really hurt? why does Calgary not want to do it?

Yeah, I kind of figured Erixon wanted to stay another year in Sweden. He is in a very good environment in Skellefteć (they've developed Rundblad, Larsson and him on the D over the last 3 years, pretty remarkable for a city with like 40k. The new "MoDo"? Somewhat, but still length to go of course).

He's been behind Rundblad last season and will be the "main guy" for a year, play in all the international tournaments et c. It defintiely can't hurt him. While I do think the AHL is a good school for European D's, at least if the can stay healthy...

I very much doubt his price would be higher then a 2nd and a 3rd, and that's if you get permission to talk with him and gets him to commit to a contract.

I don't think the organization is that foolish. If the rumors of him wanting to stay in Sweden another year are true, I can't see the Rangers dealing a talent like Del Zotto just to loan Erixon back to the SEL for a year.
