Howard Berger relieved of Leaf duties @ The Fan?

That's what Toronto Sports Media is indicating:

Edit: Howard's farewell blog:

This should have happened years ago after he made up that rumor about Avery and Blake.

You never want to see someone lose their job.

But in this case I sorta kinda am happy about it.

When a guy has been in radio as long as Berger has and has never progressed this was bound to happen.

Alright, cool. You may not have liked the guy, but lets not celebrate someone losing their job.

When he's a POS who comed up with classless stories and senseless arguments agains the team that he covers, and also gets in verbal arguments with the coach of the team which is essentially "the hand that feeds him" I'll react however I want.

Don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out Howie.

EDIT: OP you might want to put this on the top.

To be honest I think Berger, Cox and Simmonds all need to go.

We need fresh faces that aren't going to continually provide negative feed back because Toronto isn't following the tank to succeed model.

I am sick of Toronto being a bad team, but I don't think we need to constantly be reminded/or told by the media that our path is the wrong path. It has been beaten to death and I would love to see objective journalism of the maple leafs without the constant negativity of these writers.

Agreed, he seemed like a nice guy when he returned my emails, never too happy when one loses a job. But his reporting had become useless as did his trade rumours and inexplicable opinions.

Will he end up on TSN Radio? Or does TSN have standards?

I still can't forget when he called Leaf Nation a bunch of "clapping seals".

So many members of the "mainstream" media have their positions through nepotism and seniority rather than merit. I wish Howard the person the best but am very happy that we're finally starting to see some of the dead wood removed.

While the spelling and grammar may be inferior I see far more nuanced, informed and intelligent ideas on this board than in the writing of these so-called pros.

Never happy to see anyone lose their job, but can't help but find this ironic.

Another piece of the "country club" atmosphere leaves the Leafs. Even though he wasn't a player or coach his reporting to me was that of a man very complacent and in my opinion at the end of his tenure: unappreciative of his role as that of a hockey reporter in Canada's biggest fish bowl covering one of sports most popular franchises.

Based on name recognition alone, Berger probably won't stay unemployed long.

Maybe the Fan 590 finally realized that the complete disrespect that Burke and Wilson have for Berger was making them look like a joke by association.

I dont mind Lajoie.

I think the FAN is just doing an out with the old in with the new thing, trying to mimick TSN radio, getting their TV guys on the Radio as well.

Hope they have some direction because right now they're in shambles.
