Assuming the cap hits $63.5-million next season (a safe bet), here's a chart of the cap and floor since lockout.

NHL executive Bill Daly told reporters in Vancouver early this evening that the NHL salary-cap ceiling for 2011-12 could be as high as $63.5 million.
This is big news for us and the other teams.

Yes, but now we have a credible source saying it's likely.

Big news for teams that spend to the cap limit like the Hawks.

Hell, why stop at 63.5? 70 is a nice even number.

Still strange to hear comments like this and the Blackhawks in the same sentence. I know they will spend up to it.

Other teams now have more money to spend, too. It evens out, but certainly still helps us.

Hopefully they don't just use it as an opportunity to overpay players like brouwer and kopecky.

With the way Brouwer finished and having surgery, I'm not sure I want him back.

Kopecky, for the right price, is a good player to have.

I wouldn't mind both of them back, just not at much more then they are making now. Kopecky could potentially get a decent payday coming off the year he had. We'll see what happens

I hope it goes that high. Would be a miracle for the hawks. I'd rather not have Brouwer or Kopecky back either. Pick up some gritty FA's that can do better then them, or in Brouwer's case, do what he did last year.

One year deals for Kopecky and Brouwer if we resign them. Let's save some $$$ for Sharp unless we get those two cheap. We still have to resign Frolik as well.

Frolik is more of a priority to Bowman than Brouwer or Kopecky. Hell...Campoli is more of a priority than them.

I agree, I think Kopecky is gone for sure as a UFA. Brouwer is at least worth a shot to retain as he's still restricted.

Frolik > Campoli > Brouwer > Kopecky, IMO.

Don't you think that the injury had a lot to do with Brouwer's play? Even with a shoulder tear he was our most physical player and lead the team in hits for the regular season and playoffs. We really can't afford to lose our only physical forward. Bickell isn't physical in the regular season.

The guy 22 goals and 40 points as 24 year old. I think his injury was affecting him quite a bit. At least I hope so.

His surgery was a success, so I don't see any reason not to bring him back as long as it is a reasonable contract. Unless we want to continue on our path to the softest team in the NHL.

No, it only helps team that spend to the cap limit. A team like the Blues or Preds aren't all of a sudden going to spend $15 mil more on their team because the cap went up $1 mil more than we thought.

I believe he was bothered by some sort of shoulder injury most of the season until the injury you are referring to occurred.

This is what the league, agents and some fans have known for a long time. Makes the Seabrook deal look pretty good right now. He would have gotten half a million more if we waited until it was "official". Hawks are going to be LOADED next year. Never been so excited for a season before.

I'll wait to see how Stan does in free agency, but ya with a few moves, the Hawks should be right back near the top of the league.
