It seems like the only other team that stands in our way then is LA. I could also see Buffalo going after him due to new ownership. Tampa, IMO, isn't really a threat at this point, as they will most likely use any space they have to upgrade their D.

I never really saw Tampa as a threat to begin with.

It never logistically made sense to me. They have enough center depth and I doubt that Richards would want to play the wing. They also want to not only worry about signing Stammer but to make sure their defense it locked up and they would probably want to get someone like Vokoun.

I really only see LA as a threat, but at this point I'm cautiously confident he's ours.

I think he'll be a Leaf for sure.

They had a much better second half of the season, have Reimer who had a decent half season, and are on a greater upswing than we are. The Leafs are a better team now and in the future (based on their last 40 games).

...I can't even type that with a straight face. Do you guys read the Leafs forum?

So what could we possibly offer to Dallas for Richards rights?

Is anyone worried that other teams might have better offers for his rights? Toronto still has 2 firsts and a few seconds, we only have a first...

If Dallas and NY were indeed talkin on deadline day, that would definitely help NY though.

Has to waive his NMC. If his rights are traded it'll be to a place he wants to play.

If he wants to play in TOR we're ****ed anyway.

Richards has a NMC, he can control whatever team he is traded to, even for his rights.

Even if he waives it it doesn't necessarily mean they can work out a deal.

At the trade deadline he was only willing to waive his NMC for one team--NY.

The more I think about it, the more I start to view LA as less of a threat. This is most likely Richards' last contract, he will most likely want to be guaranteed a 1st line role. Will LA really be able to promise that he will play on the first line over Kopitar?

It's actually pretty scary how much of a perfect fit Richards is on this team with the way it is currently constructed.

Plus he would get to play with Nazem Gretzky, I mean Kadri.

TB I could see if MSL was retiring. As is, they have Stamkos and an elite player in MSL, and then Vinny LeCav and other solid supporting pieces around them. Their main focus SHOULD be improving their defense and possibly goaltending.

LA has Kopitar, who is an elite playmaker and he's only 23.

LA? West coast travel? Tougher travel than Dallas.

Richards going up against his buddies on the Stars in the West.

Richards was only willing to waive for one team. It wasn't LA OR Toronto.

Terry Murray or Ron Wilson. Or John Tortorella who has a 3 year extension and Richards won a Cup with.

According to Pierre McGuire on TradeCentre(deadline day),Richards was interested in the Rangers when TB was shopping him around in 2008. The Rangers had signed Gomez and Drury the previous summer.

Richards still controls his situation.

Depends on his relationship with Niewundyk, from all reports Richards sounds like a pretty stand up guy...he might be willing to waive his NMC to help out the Stars as an organization, doesn't mean he has to sign with the team he gets traded to.

Yeah i thought about that too, but the Leafs would be stupid to make a ridiculous offer that would help the Stars so much Brad would do it for Joey N.

I would laugh if that their God Brian Burke traded Luke Schenn to DAL for Richards rights and he doesn't sign with them.

I know it will never happen but it would be hilarious.

I guess it all depends on what Joey N is gonna want for a 4 week negotiating period...I agree with your point about not giving away a boatload if your Burke or anyone else who only has an outside shot at signing him based on what has been reported.

Actually the one thing I fear happening the most is Richards signing with Toronto. They would actually be looking like a pretty damn good team if that happens.

The kid will be/is a star and the face of the franchise.

It would be like trying to acquire Bobby Ryan out of ANA, it would never happen (even as much as I want it to).

Unless Sather uses some more of his blackmail photos.

Just talked to GM Joe on the @TSNBobMcKenzie report. No point in making offer to Brad Richards because of the ownership issue.

Hey Dallas, since you won't be offering a big money Centre a new contract, can we have his rights? With that $7.8M cap hole, we will gladly give you our beloved captain Chris Drury

In all honesty, the Rangers have never signed the guy I want them to sign, all the way back to '98 with Curtis Joseph to last season with Ilya Kovalchuk, so maybe its a bad sign that I've been wanting them to sign Richards for a while.

LOL @ Toronto they have no chance at signing Richards. It came out at the deadline that Richards was only willing to waive his no trade for the rangers. If anything he might use the leafs to try to get some extra money from the rangers. But he wont be signing with them.

Since Dallas is out it basically guarantees Richards will be a Ranger on July 1st.

Please stop, even I know that nothing is a guarantee. It's just another piece of good news that favors us.
