Richards

Has Richards ever express a willingness to play for the Habs.

Kinda moot..Dallas did say today that they will not peruse him, but we will never have the Cap space.

Not going to happen, but the reporters have to eat, so expect non-stop Richards to Montreal rumors for the next few weeks.

I expect him to go to NYR and end up being their "new Gomez"

Gomez contract kills plausible Richards speculation, IMO.

I heard on the Fan 590 that Montreal was one of the teams he'd be interested in playing. The other top teams were ny, la and Toronto.
I doubt we get him unless we find a taker for Gomez.

This is how it works. A reporter asks Richards if he would like to play for [insert team name here]. Richards says yes no matter what.

Welcome to sports interviews.

NYR is what Pierre McGuire is saying on Team990 right now. Speculation of course, seems there is a good past with Torts, makes sense....

Well IIRC, we weren't on his list of teams he would accept a trade to when Tampa traded him...

I was just counting the hours until this tread was made. But seriously why wouldn't we be in the same position as the Rags ? We need to get rid of a Contract Drury/Gomez and he wants to play on a team that had a chance at winning the cup. If we sign him we are top 3 in the East. IMO.

As long as he doesn't sign in Toronto, I don't care where he ends up.

Rumor has it they are about to trade for his rights. *************** has been tweeting about it, I personally trust everything he says. I doubt he'd actually sign there though so I hope they do give up assets for him.

So by getting rid of $7.3 million he allowed himself to get $15 million in cap space? Makes sense.

I don't care if Richards goes to NYR as long as they pay 7.5-8 mil to get him. He won't be worth it in a couple years.

I'd actually rather he goes to Toronto than New York.

Even with Richards the Leafs probably ice an inferior lineup to the Habs and end up at the edge of or barely scraping into the playoffs. New York is a peer to Montreal (although I think Montreal is somewhat better) and adding an impact player might move them ahead of the Habs in the Eastern Conference.

Likewise I'm not concerned if he joins the Lightning because that just improves Tampa where they are already strong (power play and offense) and does nothing for their weaknesses. Plus Tampa was going to be competitive anyway so the balance of power doesn't really shift much.

it does since they freed up the center position by dumping Gomez. Why sign Richards at 7M when u have Gomez at 7M? Not to mention u still have Drury playing center. They couldnt have kept 3 centers @ 7M. So by getting rid of Gomez, that left a spot open for Richards. Makes sense now?

Is that the same guy that predicted that we were about to do a big trade and be very happy at the trading deadline.

No, its more like, they're close enough to the end of Drury's contract to buy him out so they have room for Richards. Gomez really doesn't enter the equation as that money's been spent on Gaborik.

With Stamkos needing a big raise and Hedman around the corner, I can't see TB going after any "big fish" UFA's.

LA is another team that will go hard after Richards IMHO, they are 1-2 players from a top contender.
