Might be kind of nice to see him in TO. Get that rivalry really going again... Richards and kessel would do work. Would prefer if we landed him but... highly unlikely.

i used my trusted Free Agent Calculator.
I entered "Brad Richards" + "Montreal"= 0.001% that he signs here

Probably because it would be hard to trade Gomez...maybe we can catch a break and Winnipeg will take a chance on him.

Yes, and it was pretty obvious we were in on some big trades but never closed them because of the inflated asking price. Believe what you want, but people that know this guy know he's legit. I follow all sports and he's money everywhere. Much better than any of these other lame rumor dudes.

Everyone please stop acting as if Gomez is stopping us from getting Richards. He isn't. Worst case he is in the minors, the Molsons make more than enough to make that happen.

The reason why we wont get Richards is because of two players, Plekanec and Eller. Pleks is our 1st line center, at worst second.

Where does that leave Eller? 3rd line role for the next 4 years? Jaques Martin would never play him with an offensive player again. If we had a different coach then yes...its possible. Under this coach we won't have 3 skill lines. It just wont happen.

Didn't Ron Maclean (a good friend of Brad) say on HNIC that he would love to play in a city like Montreal, if he didn't re-sign in Dallas?

I remember hearing that.

Eller is not yet a no2 centre.

I say Richards end up signing with the Rangers, thanks to Gainey's idiocy.

Now if I were PG, I would offer the moon to Richards and try to trade Gomez... or just send him to Hamilton.

LA is another team that will go hard after Richards IMHO, they are 1-2 players from a top contender.
I see Richards taking the biggest discount to go back to Tampa. He never wanted to leave in the first place and now they're good again. I hear he also still has a house and girlfriend in the area.

If he goes to LA, even better. Stays out of the conference. I like the East being weaker than the West.

John Shannon said on prime time sports the other day the favorites would be New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens, he said Richards has never expressed an interest in playing for Toronto. I don't see us getting him unless we get rid of Gomez which I am all for. I think the rangers have the inside track, There was a rumor last week of them buying out Drury

Anyone care to enlighten us as to the credibility of this John Shannon fellow?

He's one of those Sportsnet Talking heads, but the older guy. I don't really see how he could have any Habs inside stuff, Richards maybe, but for sure! not Habs info.

we can t send spacek down to minor. his cap salary would count anyway ( sign 35+ contract) but we could send Souray down and it wouldn t count against the cap

That's very weird, seeing as Martin moved AKost from Plekanec's wing to Eller's specifically so he could have three (and really, with Pouliot-Desharnais, it's more like *four*) skill lines.

I'm not altogether convinced it's a good strategy to overpay Richards 3 million over 6-7 years rather than continue to overpay Gomez 3 million over up to 3.

It doesn't take a MathMan to figure that one out, no pun intended.

I figured as much, but there seems to be a lot of people who'd do it in a heartbeat.

HAHA! One of the best lines from those nerdy movies, when the hot chicks always say one in a Million chance.

It's the wrong Richards to blow that kinda cash on, the other right one is locked up for 10 years in Philly.

Mike Richards is good, but he's not worth the contract Brad Richards is going to get either.

Mike is better overall, but If I were going to blow 7-8 Mil per/season on a player. It's one that won't be avail anytime soon...Stamkos!
