Semin is very solid defensively, and it's a 1 year contract for a 30-40 goal scorer. It's far from "bad". Same for Vanek.

And Eric Staal? The guy is a top-5 center in the NHL.

You can add Lebda for the Leafs; 1.5M, 1 year remaining, 4 points last year (and -14 in 41gms).

agree with most of your selection , except staal, he has won something even if he was earning less at the time, hes a player you can build around to win, and prongers a steal 4.9 might be bad when he's 40, but for the last couple years, an absolute steal

Cam Barker needs to be on this list. I didn't realize Hecht and Avery have dropped in production enough for them to be on the worst contract list.

And to the guy who mentioned Lupul, yes he is overpaid but he played very well for us and besides one Leaf fan there aren't really any other fans who would trade him away without getting significant value back.

Anyone who actually watches Jochen Hecht knows his contract isn't that bad. Same with Vanek at this point.

The same thing he thought with Gaborik and is probably thinking now with Richards: Get the top dog FA of the off season to be a Ranger.

I know I know: Richards is so totally different than all the rest of them.

Problem there is Ballard is actually good, still overpaid a tad but good nonetheless. AV just doesn't like him for some reason.

It's ****ing stupid to use points as a benchmark for any player. That's not the only thing that matters in hockey, not even close actually.

Boston's team leading scorer had 62 points this year, and they're in the cup finals.

While I whole-heartedly agree with Barker being overpaid (and pretty much useless at the NHL level), I disagree on the other two. Cullen didn't produce quite to expectation, but he was pretty much the same player he was in Carolina. And Backstrom's been having hip and groin problems the past couple years. I wouldn't call him overpaid, I'd just say he's getting old. There is a difference IMO.

Seriously. I cannot believe the people thinking Vanek is a "bad" contract. Is he overpaid? Yeah, a little. But he's one of the most versatile offensive players in the league, and his two-way game has improved to the point where he can be responsible in his own zone. He's Buffalo's best skater, and he is paid accordingly, whether they wanted to pay him that much or not.
