Gomez and Gionta can be our Lecavalier and St. Louis

Is it just me, or does everyone have a feeling that Gomez is going to bounce back better than ever in 2011/2012?

I have a feeling that Scott Gomez was embaressed this past season and will be working his behind off this summer to be ready to go for the next season in Montreal.

Look at this:

Scott Gomez
2005-06 New Jersey Devils 82GP / 33G / 51A / 84 Points

Brian Gionta
2005-06 New Jersey Devils 82GP / 48G / 41A / 89 Points

Can these two become our Lecavalier - St.Louis???

Something tell's me that Scott Gomez has to bounce back, I honestly believe that he is our Kovalev and this teams success all depends on him, if he is able to put up points with Gionta I am not worried about Cammalleri - Plekanec, defense and the goaltending.

Discuss!

I think it's only you

You know a guy called Jonathan Cheechoo score 40 goals one season, do you know where he plays know? Worcester, AHL. Vinny isn't at the end of his carerr he's got a lot to do, Gomez is closer to the end than the begining. You can't compare both.

Weill ... IF he bounces back ... Habs will probably have a great year.

But I'll not hol my breath on that!

If Gomez bounce back he will get 60-65p, not anywhere near 84p...

Not sure what you've been drinking (smoking?) but when you start having such delusions you might want to cap it up or put it away!

With any luck (for the Habs and their fans) Gomez will finish his career in the AHL - or maybe the ECHL (althhough I see Gauthier as a status quo GM who will likely make minimum roster changes)!

What if this is.....as good as it gets?

Can they be our Lecavalier & St. Louis?

Cost wise? Yes
Performance wise? No

With his abysmal shot I wonder how Gomez ever scored above 15 goals.

They can be:

Gionta (St. Louis-verylite)
Gomez (Lecavalier-extremelylite)

You posted their best years, post the average of their top 5 years versus the average of Vinny/Marty's top 5 years, you're going to see there's no way Gio/Gomez become Vinny/Marty for us, not even if we're comparing best years.

Of course they both can be a killer 2nd line for us once chemistry is sorted out and they have a real QB.

I get what you're saying though none the less. Yes they can fit that type of role for our team, no they won't ever be even close to as good as Vinny/St. Louis are together. (Okay, in a good/great season close, but in an average one no where near)

That having been said, it's all about what Pacioretty imo can do for them. Can he be their Elias? That's imo what will help. Can Markov be their Rafalski? That is a definite imo.

if i were you i would be more excited about MaxPac, Subban, Price. That's them who will carry the Habs, don't need some old time stars.

Although there are some similarities, the 2 from Tampa are ahead of our guys in talent....VL's contract is worse than Gomez's though...

I too believe that Gomez is going to bounce back. Look at it this way, there is no way he can be worse than last year.

Scott is a professional, and bottom line is, he was publicly embarrassed last year. I think there is no way in hell he registers 80 points, he simply doesn't have a good enough shot to score 25-30 goals.

However, I see him putting up anywhere between 60-70 points.

Keep the faith my friends.

There is also someone that completes that line called Patrik Elias that's not that bad!!! That year Elias only played 38games and had 45pts!

I think you need to wash the fruit before you eat it.
Hate to tell 'ya but we are stuck with Gomez and there is no way he is gonna put up the #'s he once did with NJ.

Let's face it, Sather must have had some REALLY good compromising photos to force Gainey to take Gomez and his grossly overpaid contract.

Gomez stands up at the end of our playoff run and says: "yeah I should have played better throughout the season and the playoffs" - YA THINK!?

Gomez could get in decent shape.

I don't want to be seeing any double chin on tubby this fall.

He is still a fine skater but does not have the acceleration/burst that made him a dynamic player when he was younger. If he can re-captrue a little of that athleticism and combine it with his smarts he can have a good year. I think that's all he needs to do.

Gionta will be fine.

No you are not alone. I also believe Gomez will have a great year this year. Montreal is so full of bandwaggon fans, this is what makes following this organization such a major pain in the ass. You do realize that these whiners will get him traded one day, then he will have a 75 pts season elsewhere, then they will blame Gauthier and the organization for trading him.

Obviously you are drinking the same Kool-Aid.
What possibly makes anyone think Gomez is going to do anything different than what he has shown? He was useless in NY and the same here. You could put him on Vancouver or Boston right now and he would be exactly the same.

Right about now I'd be happy with Gomez and Gionta being our barely average point-per-roadtrip third line.

I thought they would be our St-Louis-Stamkos or our Sedin-Sedin. No need to keep your expectations so low!

Saint-Louis has been discussed as the best player in the league every seasons since the lock-out, i doubt Gionta or Gomez will ever be discussed within the top-30 players again. Gionta is fine, but Gomez is washed up, he didn't give us even the slightest hope this season; 38pts ain't a fluke, it's an indication.

I can remember 7 or 8 times this season where one of his passes directly contributed to a goal, most of his points come from secondary assists.

Spoken like a player. I'm pretty sure Gomer is out of shape. If you played, you know. You need the jump. You need to beat guys with speed. Offense is beating guys with speed. Acceleration especially.

Gomer needs to shave 10 or 15, I'm sure of it. If he does not, he's coasting guys.

We'll see, but I'm not sure I'd give a crap if I was him. Why bother? 2 more years, retire at 35, fishing boat in the Barbados with my buddies, for the rest of my life. I won a cup too, so what's left?

Gomer might become the prime example of big money just ruining a player. Just ruined him I think, and I partly understand that.
