Wha-... Can someone explain to me how Regin is currently our most over-rated player?! The guy's been benched for the majority of the season and he's been **** on all season, while going through a sophmore slump. At this current moment, how can you call that being over-rated?

(In response to several "Regin = Over-rated" posts that I have seen.)

Explain to me how a guy who was not drafted, made the NHL by hard work, desire and determination, has a Cup ring, admits that any game could be his last, works his arse off every shift, was the only forward with more than 25 games played with a + rating, produced in the minutes he was given down the stretch (meaningless games or otherwise), and for a small guy misses very few games due to injury, is overrated?

Better topic may be who is the most respected, most disrespected.

I don't see a rebuttal. He has valid points. Ryan Shannon gets too much flak on these boards. However, there isn't room for him here. We have too many players that can play a bottom 6 role much better than a speedy, small guy like Shannon can. He sure as hell doesn't fit in the top 6. He gets too much crap from everyone, but he doesn't belong here anymore unless it's in Binghamton or in the press box.

Overrated:
now -> Although I like him, Philips
all time -> Chara. Great player but never clutch.

Underrated:
now -> Michalek, Regin. With the right system and linemates they'll prove people wrong. Shannon too.
all time -> Pothier, Schubert. Schubert had the tools - size & strength, speed, great shot, but was never put in a position to succeed. The sens killed his career in his prime developmental years

Overrated:
now -> Craig Anderson. ONE great season as a starter in the NHL and our goaltending is now sorted out for the next four years?
all time -> Fisher

Underrated:
now -> Regin. He had a good thing going with Kovalev and Foligno this year but Clouston wanted to be the all mighty dictator so he broke them up in response to some Kovalev comments. If that line sticks, he would have had a pretty damn good season.
all time -> Vermette. Should have been our 2nd line center but overpaying Fisher meant he had to play a role he had no business playing into.

Yes, he had those tools for sure, but outside of that his puck skills were dreadful and his hockey sense was shockingly bad. There's a reason he's not in this league anymore and it has absolutely nothing to do with how he was developed. He is nothing beyond a 5/6 D at best.

His puck skills weren't stellar but as a Dman he could have developed enough to get by. As far as hockey sense, he was quite effective in the cup run in '07 even if he played as a forward.

BTW, I don't know about you but playing him mostly as a forward seems like mishandling his development to me.

Underrated
current
Spezza's game is improving and rounding out too well into maturity. Any trade offer would have to be paramount to even kick tires guys.
Shannon has a very smart game and is extremely versatile. Has offensive upsides especially with point power play positioning and isn't a liability
recent
Vermette would have done well in the system (read: perhaps lack thereof) we ended up having
Kelly: you could not ask more of a 3rd centre. His two way game is fantastic, too bad he earned such a high $$$ contract

Overrated
current:
Regin because I don't feel he will live up to any expectations placed on him
Butler isn't as fit as a typical first liner and has too much skill for lower decks as he is. I want to be impressed Bobby.
recent
Elliot: the fact he was touted, shopped, used and or recognized as anything resembling a starting goalie is ludicrous.
Fisher: as much as I liked his game, he wasn't worth the cost. He played a great hockey game though.

Points isn't everything, unlike guys like Karlsson & Spezza if they are not scoring they are pretty useless otherwise. Fisher when he was healthy did everything well which is why coaches loved having him on their team & he was sought after at the deadline.

Don't make me laugh. After Fisher got married he was nothing, Shannon would offer better physical play than him.

Btw, are you twelve12?
