I am sure we have some who think its ok because our core is so young.
who the **** needs prospects. Holmgren should just offer up our draft picks for pennies on the dollar if he thinks so little about what prospects we have in the system. He would rather sign these canadian junior and college free agents instead.
What a ****ing joke. Hey Mr. Snider are you awake? you see whats going on?

It's really getting hard to follow this team as closely as I do.

I hope Luukko has another son we can draft this year in the fourth round.

That's what the guy in the office next door is about to see.

I wonder if they even offered the guy a contract recently.

no first, no 2nd, and we lose our top prospect.
But hey the core is young who the **** cares!

So because Eriksson is 21 (not 22), he is eligible to re-enter the NHL Entry Draft as a player who was previously selected in the NHL Entry Draft.

So at least we can go draft him again...

AT LEAST WE HAVE SOMETHING TO USE A GOD DAMN THIRD ROUND PICK ON!

Honestly, what choice do we have?

Hope no one selects him so we can sign him after the draft?

Nobody is stupid enough to let a goalie like him just walk after selecting them...

Or are they?

God, it's a good thing I'm bartending tonight. Needless to say I'll be drinking. I honestly thought we had something good going beneath this lack of a prospect pool; that Holmgren, despite trading away our picks had some kind of understanding that we need to keep what solid prospects we had and try in any possible way to bring more in.

I was clearly wrong.

What is it about the offseason that turns this organization into a clump of slobbering jackasses? I mean...come on. How does this happen?

If the answer is "well, we have Bob" that isn't acceptable in the slightest.

I'm so angry right now. First, that drunken idiot of a GM completely overpays for Pronger and practically guts the farm system. Then, he completely overpays again for Versteeg and further depletes any resources the team has. Finally, he loses the franchise's top prospect. How this man has a job continues to amaze me. Peter Lukko, you need to start throwing your weight around and get that idiot out of the GM spot immediately. Clarke never would have left the team in this kind of shape. This is just getting messy beyond repair now.

Unacceptable and unjustifiable.....

This is a joke, right?

Why does this not surprise me. It's totally my fault, how the hell did I not see this coming? Holmgren striikes again!

Well the bright side to this is, with little to no goalie prospects in our system, we now have to sign a proven goalie in the offseason!

Yea... I'm just fishing here.

Holmgren ran the Hartford franchise into the ground. Why am I not surprised that he's doing the same in Philadelphia?

I don't think Homer overpaid for Pronger. The Versteeg trade I've never really figured out, despite trying.
This? Homer's lost it. Completely.

one word.
loyalty. We have talked about this before on this very board. How else do you think guys like John Stevens get Head Coaching jobs.
How many GMs around the league would still have a job with the long laundry list of screw ups this guy has had?

I see you're trading our picks,
Letting prospects walk.

And I'm like, **** yOOuuu

(ooh hoo hooo)

And now the space in our cap
Just isn't enough

I'm like, **** yoUUUuuu

edit: "And now the youth in our pool, Just isn't enough" works too if you'd like to scream that line in your rage-singing instead.

I don't mind the Versteeg trade. It seems Leino was not willing to sign throughout the whole year and Z was being Z, so we needed depth. We will most likely keep Steeg at the price we wanted Leino at, while also having him be RFA the year after.

First Maroon.
Then Kalinski.
Then Lehtivuori.
Then Bertilsson.
Now Eriksson.

That's quite a few players in the past 365 days who could've possibly made an impact in the NHL down the road if not for this organization and could still make an impact in the NHL, though maybe not with this organization.

one of those first rounders should of been conditional. Not the 3rd.
I love Pronger, but this was another case of Holmgren competing against himself.

I am still steamed about this. No one can defend this at all. If you dont think you can sign him you trade his rights.
I hope we get a explanation from Holmgren. I am sure we will get a "what can you do" instead.
****ing moron.

This isn't like Tim Erixon.

Eriksson is a strong goalie, but he's still a GOALTENDING PROSPECT.

There's no value in that.

So trading him for what? If a team wanted him and knew what was going on they could just spend a pick to get his rights instead of trading one to Holmgren for him. Then they keep Eriksson's rights instead of signing him.

So this isn't a "sign him or trade him" asset situation...

This is...

You see the damn deadline coming, and you make sure he's signed.

I guess that's where we differ in opinions. My opinion is that the Flyers were not a Stanley Cup contending team at the time they made the Pronger trade. This year they showed just how far off from being a contender they really were when Pronger was out of the lineup. There were other areas that needed to be addressed (goaltending) than making the big acquisition of Pronger. To give up your top defensive prospect, a 25 goal scorer and two first round picks for a 34 year old defenseman (at the time) with A LOT of mileage on him was way too much.

The Versteeg deal was even worse because Toronto was looking to get rid of him. There was no incentive for Holmgren to go out of his way to acquire Versteeg because the Flyers were winning games before the Versteeg deal was made. Instead, Holmgren panicked and gave away yet another first round pick. So, that's year number four that the Flyers are without a first round pick.

As for Eriksson walking, agreed. Completely inexcusable. Something could have been done with his rights and instead, Holmgren just walks away without even putting up a fight.

I hope he sees what kind of mess this franchise's farm system is in and I hope someone within the organization calls him out on it. I don't expect anyone to do anything though and they'll continue to let that jackass run roughshod.
