Unfair.

Gudbranson was the #3 pick in a better draft than this one. Just to compare potentially available players, Gudbranson is more valuable than Landeskog, Hamilton, or a Murphy, especially when Florida could pick any of those players (most likely) if they pleased @ 3.

I just don't see any reason for FLA to do this

George Richards, the Panthers beat writer, dispelled that notion. It's pretty much false.

You think that one GM is going to:

1. Waive Grabner, who is picked up and scores more goals than anyone on your own team.
2. Admit a mistake on last year's first round pick.

And hand both to the same team?

Hello unemployment!

Cheers,

Dan-o

Why is Gudbranson a mistake?

Check out at 3:13 specifically. Doesn't want to play here?

Gudbranson was a mistake?? And Grabner didn't make the team. People's lack of knowledge on the situation with Grabner is astounding.

I think what Dan-o means is if for some reason you could not sign Gudbranson (which probally never happens) the pick would have been a mistake.

As far as Grabner, all we can say is Thank you

He was drafted 3rd overall in a better draft. How does the 5th in a weaker draft get Gudbranson? The guy is a stud. He's going to be good.

Yeah, I hate that my then coach and GM didn't have a crystal ball. Sucks!

Honestly, what team moves an NHL roster player for a guy who didn't make the team? He's been quoted as saying he understood why he was moved. And he was seen as such a hot commodity he was sent to Florida with a first rounder and an NHL player for...Ballard, who was coming off a terrible season. AND,this hot commodity was passed over by Toronto and Edmonton. It's easy to play armchair GM, but no team would have done differently with him. Tallon wanted him in Rochester, not on the Island.

Let me preface this by saying that I don't think Florida should make the trade, but....

this year's draft is weaker because of the depth. Last year, there was a clear 1-2, and then a group of good but not great prospects. This year, you don't have that 1-2, but picks 3-8 are probably on par with last year. Don't forget, a lot of experts had Fowler, Gormley and Connolly ahead of Gundbradson last year.

I don't think anyone would be shocked if Hubredeau or Courturier or Larsson or Landeskog ended up being better than Gundbradson. In fact, I bet you could find some scouts who would rank Gundbradson last in that group. But Florida, who was obviously high on Gundbradson last year, probably has him ranked ahead of the rest.

trading after one year would mean they arent happy with him and then that would mean he was a mistake as a choice.

If you trade last year's first rounder for a first rounder this year, then you must feel that you've gone wrong with last year's first rounder.

I'm not implying that Gudbranson is a mistake. Just that if he were traded for 2011 #5 overall, Tallon would be admitting a mistake. You wouldn't just drop a year of development for a do-over for no reason, right?

And, yeah, if Tallon were to do that, it should mean his job. I don't think there's a chance in the world that happens, because (i) I have no reason to believe Gudbranson won't just sign and become a productive player, and (ii) if Tallon did it he would lose his job instantly. Unless he's Mike Milbury that is...

Excuse me, but after years of MM torment, much of it from Panther fans, it's fun to poke fun at your bungling GM.

Cheers,

Dan-o
