And yet they are still a team that will be cap eligible... fantastic.

I heard it was about 18 000, but that could be off. I heard it in the Drive to 13,000 thread from a poster, so it's not from an official source or anything.

13.000 reached and they have 10,000 more on waiting list.

13.000 x 45.000$ ( avrg price for 5 years ) = 585 000 000...

http://www.winnipegsun.com/2011/06/0...ckets-sell-out

"Holy smokes, that's unbelievable," said Thrashers goalie Chris Mason. "I really can't wait to experience the excitement of playing in front of a sold-out, enthusiastic crowd. It's just going to be crazy. Every hockey player's dream is to play in front of fans like that " I just can't wait."

Selling out was the easy part, now they need good management to come in and put together a good team. There are some quality young players there but some of the depth lacks quality (Thorburn getting a 3-year contract extension makes no sense to me) and they could really use a top-pairing defenseman to play with Bogosian in matchups.

Since they're playing in the East they could probably plug holes at forward with some quality 3rd-line players on the cheap, find a veteran dman for one year and have a pretty good shot at making the playoffs. Once they move out West it will be a lot more difficult though.

People here are excited though.

Now it's time to work on getting a team in Q-City and then Hartford.I think the league will try KC next, though

Good for the fans of Winnipeg! Egg on Bettman's face, hockey in the South is a tough sell Gary, there are so many other interests in these areas...

No chance of getting a team in Hartford anytime soon. While there are Whalers fans who would have you believe that Hartford is a great market, the only person who is really speaking about bringing back the Whalers is Howard Baldwin, and he does not have backers, or the money to do so himself. One of the reasons for the Whalers leaving in 1997 was the lack of a new arena. It is now 2011, there is still not a new arena, and our new governor has given us the biggest tax increase ever, so there is no chance that politicians will ask the public for additional taxes to fund an arena. There is no Connecticut regional sports network and there likely will never be until/if the University of Connecticut lets their other TV deals expire. Finally, there is still the problem of being located between New York and Boston. Not only does that limit the area from which Hartford can draw fans, it is also unlikely that those teams would want a new team to potentially draw fans away from them (allowing a team to move to Hartford is much different than a having a Hartford team as a result of a WHA merger).

Winning + a good economy = butts in the seat. Very simple equation. If you have a team not improving for ten years, it is quite hard to support it. Case in point, the Thrashers. The question is will fans in Winnipeg be like Oilers fans, supporting their team regardless of their record.
