On top of the 13,000 season tickets sold, it sounds like they have capped their waiting list at 8000, and that has been filled as well.

I wouldn't worry about 5-10 years down the road for this franchise.

EDIT: Just looked at TSN..So I guess 13000 season tix is a sellout and they will hold 2000 for non season tix holders. Pretty fantastic for Winnipeg. A poster at the site said there was already 3500 people on the waiting list for season tickets.

Welcome back Winnipeg, and congratulations.
Reports from the main forum say local radio says this number is much higher. Like 14,000 and climbing. At $50(non-refundable) just to get on the list = 700K just from the waiting list. Apparently some guy on kijiji is offering $4000 over cost for seasons tickets.

Looks like Bettman should rethink his opposition to more Canadian teams.

Congrats to Winnipeg

The numbers are 13000 for seasons tickets.

1000 not sold to allow for walk up or game to game sales, and an additional 1000 are seats contained for skyboxes that are not available to the public. =15000

This question is a bit early, but when are they going to expand the current arena or build a new one. Sounds like they NEED an 18000 seater now just to placate the fans.

Also, when will the Winnipeg HF boards oopen up. People are probably already clamouring to get threads started I would think.

Formally the NHL teams have to ratify the agreement pending the sale of the 13k seats. Winnipeg has done that, the rest is pretty much a rubber stamp that happens AFAIRC in early July.

Kind of hard for HF to move on this when theres not a name or official ratification yet.

Although in the interim I guess "Winnipeg something or others" board could suffice.

Given that jackass Buff plays on that club I have a few names I could suggest..

I've heard the arena isn't able to be expanded.

We are having to share the Atlanta Thrashers thread, which will gradually transition into a Winnipeg thread; there are sticky threads there explaining the process of this gradual transition. It's kind of wierd right now. There are threads for the mourning Atlanta fans, while at the same time celebratory threads for the Winnipeg fans. But surprisingly, not much hostility between the two fan bases up to this point.

It's not. However, in 20-30 years down the road, when a new arena will be needed, I'm betting they will build with an increased capacity in mind.

Yeah, it's a much better team than you'd ever put together in an expansion draft, plus another top 10 draft pick this year? Pretty nice, but Winnipeg deserves it. I'm happy for them ... until we face off.

Hey, you're now a visitor on this board. Not my issue but maybe take the high road or grab a thicker skin.

Pretty sure it was just stated in jest or in spirit of competition.

At least some angst means you're now in the party again.

Get used to it

Yeah, it won't take long for dislike to take hold.

Good thing the Winnipeg somethings are still in the Southeast division. Do we even play them next season?

I'm surprised cause Winnipeggers dont even tip cab drivers or bartenders let alone commit to 3-5yrs of seasons seats.

Yea I'm happy that winnipeg is back, but the Jets are the Oilers enemy. Just like the Flames and Canucks, I will never cheer for the Jets. F+#* the Jets, GO OILERS!

PS, Can't wait to see the Oilers light up the Jets like old times!

And I'm sure that the city and province will be more than willing to build one. Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers might be just a memory thanks to the small minded thinkers in this city.

A buddy of mine who is in the peg says his company bought 8 season tickets and when their accountant went over the fine print of the agreement and says for businesses it wont be a problem--but he says that individuals who have agreed to 3 or 5 year contracts he thinks there could be problems. But it sounds like there is a wait list that will be about 1 to 2 thousand names long.

But it is my opinion and my opinion alone that in 3 years if the new Peggers play like the thrashers of now--fans may not be as happy to fork over the money as often.

I think in a few years the thrashers of the peg will be in the same boat as the oilers were two years ago--always finishing just out of the playoffs and picking around 10th to 15 in the draft. And then they will go into full rebuild mode.

So far it sounds like the new owners and SOME fans are not on the same page when it comes to building the team--the new owners have said they will be methodical and patient with building of the team and wont be spending to the cap right away and will build the team properly--some fane--once july 1st rolls around you will see it more--will push the team to make a big splash on the open market

Suck it Bettman!!! That's awesome for Winnipeg, they will probably be my very distant 2nd favorite team.
This should help in Quebec getting their franchise back.
